Javon Hargrave...An Unsong Player

A friend of mine and I were spitballing Steelers the other day he was telling me that that player that probably should be complaining is Javon Hargrave.

His stat line is not overly impressive, but his 2 sack day in JAX brought him to 5 sacks which is only 1 behind Geno Atkins. He's ahead of Suh, Cox and several other big brand name 4-3 DTs.

Playing far fewer snaps as a 34 NT...he's thinking Hargrave would be a 8-9 sack guy every season playing 50-60 snaps a game as a 43 DT...as it stands, he's getting about 30 snaps as game as a base 34NT.

Here's hoping they let the big dog hunt a little more!

Read about him filling in for Tuitt during the JAX game. I've always thought he was better suited in the 3 or 5 technique, at least on passing downs. Even at NT he's making his presence felt. He's amazingly nimble & quick to shed blocks. The plays where he sniffs out screens are fun to watch. The only drawback is he doesn't quite have the gap containment presence that Tuitt has.

Would love to see him get more work though.

That's what I've heard thru coach Mitch...he's more of a penetrating player best suited for 1 gap duty (like a good 43 DT) and Casey was a gap control player had the lateral to play both gaps.

Bagged another one yesterday...they gave Captain half of it, but I thought Hargrave took him down with one mighty swipe. Heyward kind of finished him off I guess.

Yep...they need to find a way to get him more snaps in nickel/dime situations. Typically collapsing the pocket or beats his man on nearly every rush.

Maybe this is why they went with only 3 OLBs.

Did they bring the kid back as depth? Or do you think they will try to work him into a package?...I'm thinking depth.

Very doubtful they actually use the kid much. They should, but only if they are forced to.

Yep...new development...Dupree has popped up on the injury list with a pectoral....officially questionable but pecs concern me.
