I thought you were high on Wentz for Dallas in the 1st or 2nd round

No. I was all in on Wentz in the 3rd, would have been OK in the 2nd, and was a NO in the 1st, especially when he climbed into the top 5.
His experience at lower level school gave me pause on him.
I believe @cowboycolors was saying the same thing.

Why on earth would any QB go from a possible 4th rd pick to the 2nd pick in the draft?

I never tracked it so I dont know, but something doesnt compute here.

Nice. A ranking updated a few days before the draft.
In 16 Cowboys fans were looking hard at QB. Wentz early on was projected as 3rd possible 4th rounder. He shot up after the Senior Bowl.

His Senior Bowl sent his stock skyrocketing also the championship game in Frisco TX for the FCS was highly scouted. I really liked Carson but not before the 2nd round at the earliest. The rest with the Eagles is a classic NFL tale of how not to manage a QB IMHO.

Early in the draft Cook and Lynch were high on most boards, they dropped like dead flies, while Wentz shot up like a missle.

Yeah, that's kinda the way those mocks go, isn't it. Having Paxton Lynch as the top QB on the board at 8 makes me think this is what Elway used and stopped doing his homework afterward. When you look at objectively, there really wasn't a lot to choose from in that draft, QB wise so teams loaded up elsewhere. Then the Cowboys got lucky and found Dak. He wasn't on anyone's radar.

Yes, mocks change greatly from beginning to end as players players climb or fall during the draft process. I remember when Dallas drafted Ware. He wasn't a first rounder to the draft experts until word leaked Parcells liked him.

I believe Parcells thought he could get Spears in the first take another player with their 2nd first rounder and land Ware in the 2nd.

Parcell liked Spears over Ware, but had to be convinced they could get Ware and Spears if the took Ware first.

Here's a January 2016 mock showing Wentz at #22. Not saying anyone was wrong in December 2020. Without seeing a whole bunch of mocks it's hard to recall exactly who was slated to go where. Any 1 mock could be massively out of kilter with others at that time.
