Video released of Jahlil Okafor speeding over Ben Franklin Bridge

(Video is attached)

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --
Delaware River Port Authority police have released video of Philadelphia 76ers player Jahlil Okafor speeding over the Ben Franklin Bridge last October.

Okafor was charged for driving 108 miles per hour.

Last week, Okafor reached a plea deal to dismiss reckless driving charges.

He paid a $439 fine for "unsafe operation."

(IF this were anyone of us our license would have been suspended and we would have been thrown in jail!)

I get it, fast car, open road.... Easy to speed but this isn't a good example to be setting.

I was young once and got ticketed for 105 in a 55. Open road early in the morning, no one else on the highway. Still was a stupid thing to do. Did not go to jail and paid a fine. Hopefully he will learn his lesson; as I did. No need to put someone in jail who still has a lot to learn. Maybe a little community service is in his future.

I hate the "young and dumb" argument... You can't use that excuse when you go that far over the speed limit, it's common sense, you don't need to be "old" to know not to do it

Same. I was 20 when it happened to me. 104 in a 45 (speeds had just dropped in that area from 65, but I still had 2 miles before the interstate was ending). As I came around the slight bend, I saw him on the shoulder and knew I was busted. I had started to brake and pull over, before he even had a chance to turn his lights on.

He gave me some leniency, due to the fact that I didn't BS him. BUT - not until after scaring the bejeebus outta me.

Complete bull that he was going 108 in that video.

He was not going 108 before the chase because he just came through the toll plaza.
Within seconds the cop matches his speed and then catches up to him.

I used the "I didn't think my car could go that fast" argument. :heh:

And I'm OK with that. Glad you were not like me when you were young. It took me awhile to grow up. Had I gone to jail for felony driving, chances are things would have not worked out so well. Maybe one has to experience things like that to have the spirit of 2nd chance.

Glad you are still around and you learned from your mistakes
