What ever has happened to "consistency" with the Red Wings. One never knows from game to game which team character will show up and what their chemistry will be from matchup to matchup. Who will be matched with who this time? will the merry-go-round be operating once again? Is Pavel's wingmate going to be Abby for much longer, so that the opposition can double on Pavel all game long? How much longer will Mike be in that coma? Has anyone called for the medic yet? Some of us are watching and waiting with baited breath.

Good question Schlegs.

I thought the last game down here was painful to see, yesterday was worse. And I had company in from Toronto to go see the Wings play no less.

How frustrating! Losing to the Jackets, no less, and for how many times this season? How has this organization deteriorated to this level from what they have been for the last 20+ years as a successful franchise?

That what happens when coddled stars with no heart go against a bunch of guys who have something to prove.

From the very start, the Jackets have said they were going to be very tough to play against, and the team is better than early results showed. Red Wings showed them no respect and expected to not have to work against them.

Blue Jackets earned the wins just as much as the Red Wings earned the losses.

Sawchuk, next year your guests from TO won't have to travel to see the Wings play. I'm going to try to get to every game when the Wings come to town; and, definitely whenever they are in Buffalo.

the effort by zetterberg these last few game has been downright disgraceful. not sure if it's age, injuries or what but his play has been pathetic. even datsyuk has looked like he's been dogging it lately. maybe datsyuk is finally fed up with being put with 2 ahl deadweights on his line. wake up babcock!

That level of effort and the inability to think in pressure situations for some of these players, has been much of my ranting lately. It's been more than disgraceful to put it lightly. Anyone who can point the blame for that on the fact that Lidstrom retired knows little idea about how the game should be played. We have missed so many scoring opportunities in this first half of the season that it makes one wonder if somebody has been hypnotizing some of these guys before the puck has dropped. That hasn't a thing to do with Lidstrom retiring. There are games where the forwards support the d better than they have all season, but in others they seem to be on drugs.
I can't say that I agree with you about Emmerton; he should be a permanent second line guy down the road - he has a sense of urgency and is generally in the midst of the puck battles. He can pass onto teammates sticks, for the most part, which is more that I can say about a number of those other players of his experience level and some of the much older players, and he is one of the few guys lately on this team that can finish. Cleary has certainly lost a step, but let's admit it, his heart is still in it, although his skills have waned a bit, which is considerable more than we can say about the attitude of some of the others from one game to the other. I've liked Miller for the last few seasons; and, when some of the Wings posters listed him as one of the players that the front office should let go, I totally disagreed. And, to me, had they let him go, we would be in much worse shape than we are at the moment. Also, we have so many of these Wings fans sounding the praises of Kronwall, who is carrying much of the onus to keep the ship afloat, but, IMO, it is Smith that has shown that he makes the better plays and is much smarter than Kroner, who at times forgets the fundamentals of the game, like the other night when he held the puck far too long behind the net, allowing the forechecker to get into his grille, then he made the cardinal mistake of trying to make the pass in the direstion of the opposing player, instead of sending it up the boards away from the forecheck, thus causing a turnover and a bang-bang play for a goal. I question his ability to think at times.
When a win is absolutely necessary, we will see a completely different team on the ice with a brand new mindset, than the one we saw against the Jackets in the back-to-back. Why is that? I think it lies with both Babcock's system and also those who have the mindset that one or two losses can be made up with a couple of wins. Those are the kind of players that we don't need, regardless of their abilities. Some of the younger guys up from GR seem hungry to make things happen, but unless those that you can count on are doing what they are suppose to do, that lack of leadership on the ice affects everyone's ability to move things forward. And, to me, as far as Abdelkader goes, he will be limited to a decent defensive forward, but that's as far as it goes. His passing accuracy is questionable, his ability to take a pass is questionable, and he definitely can't finish. Twice in the last few games, he was lokking at a wide-open net while with the puck, both times missing the opportunity to score. He is not that good, and at times is a liability, although, at other times helps with hits that keep opposing players from making plays.
I made the statement to my daughter by phone the other day that we should unload the entire team, except for a handful of guys, and start over again with people that actually want to win and hate to lose everytime they step onto the ice. She hung up on me, when she asked if I meant most of them, and I responded with "absolutely", so that us die-hards could again watch a team that competes to win every second of every game, not just the last 6 or seven minutes in most of their games that they've been the reason why the team was down one or two goals. She is one of those loyal fans who loves this team no matter what their record is or how they play.
As far as Babcock is concerned, his ways to right the ship are so external to the causes that I'm beginning to wonder if he is still capable of realizing what the underlying issues actually are that is causing this different direction that the team seems to be going. This mixing and matching of linemates isn't working, and why he hasn't remembered what had worked in the past might still work again, seems to have me question if he is thinking at all. He hasn't fixed that inefficient power play, which has been appauling all season long. I'm starting to wonder if he even knows how to fix it. It is so obvious that one of the main issues with that is that they move the puck so slowly in terms of immediacy. Anyone who has seen the particulars in any successful PP knows that when you move the puck quickly, the defenders can't cover as well, and it opens scoring opportunities. And, who he has been using at times on the PP is ludacrious. When will Mike finally realize a couple of the ABCs of a successful PP. Is he really capable of something that simple?

Maybe it was because the Jackets came out and manhandled the Wings from the very start and dictated every second of play.

Nah, couldn't be that. I mean the Jackets traded a talented guy away and don't have any big name guys. So they're barely human, right? When they win it can't because they went out there with everyone laughing in their faces and laid down their will and earned a win (or two in this case). NO! It has to be because the the team they beat let them. Whatever you do, at all costs, never give credit or respect to the guys who came onto the ice and forced you to play their game, in your barn too. NOOOOO.

If you're that bent about the Jackets making your team submissive twice in a row, I just can't WAIT until next year when Boston and Montreal beat them to death. They got shut down by Adrian Aucoin. How the hell are they going to handle PK Subban or Zdeno Chara? Or Marc Methot and Chris Phillips, even.

Should be great to watch.

There's little doubt that the Jackets outplayed them, but if you think for one minute that the Wings have been playing their best game lately, you haven't seen them when they can have played a much more physical and have been stronger on the puck this season. The support by the forwards at both ends was putred to day the least, and their ability to finish was the worst that I've seen in quite a while. Kudos to the Jackets play in the back-to-back, but much of the Wings demise has been done internally.
