The Islanders have asked their fans to wear white tonight at the NVMC. They asked the Caps if they could wear their white road jerseys but were declined. I know Ovi & company are expecting to come to a somewhat empty barn. That won't be the case. This game is a SELLOUT.

Al Montoya will be in goal for the Isles. The Golden Beer Man has more goals than Ovi, who knew that would happen at the beginning of the season???:D

Is this a last chance promotion to show the NHL the Islanders actually have support?

Actually ever since the Penguins game the crowds have increased. The fan support is their, they just want a reason to come. Over 5,000 people showed up for their annual prospect game during prospect camp. The team only expected about 1,500.

By reason to come, you mean jump on the bandwagon?

Not really. The fanbase has been dealt blow after blow from bad management. Milbury set the franchise back at least 5 years with his moves. The Islanders actually have a pretty good prospect pool now. The problem is UFA's avoid the team like the plague because of the arena. The funny thing is the only player who ever asked to be traded since Snow took over as GM was Chris Campoli. Everyone else likes L.I.. Wisniewski was actually surprised when he found out he was dealt to Montreal.

Mad Mike really put a dent in your organization didn't he. Any truth to the rumour there is a giant hole in the GM's box at Nassau called the Milbury Crater? From what I hear it is almost as well known as the the impact side that wiped out the dinosaur.

It wouldn't surprise me. Part of the arena came down during a storm last season. So with the NVMC anything is possible.:D

Everytime I see Milbury on TV I switch the channel or hit the mute button. I keep hoping another team would be dumb enough to give him a job within their organization so he wouldn't be on TV anymore.

The only prospects Snow has traded were all drafted by Milbury. Edmonton got nothing for Ryan Smyth.:D Bergenheim is the only one who's playing in the league & the Isles let him walk this year without offering him a contract.

Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha. Paving the way for Rick "I've fallen and I can't get up" DiPietro to be the future in goal.

My favoutire 'Milbury' of all time.

Believe it or not the Yashin trade was worse as far as I'm concerned. Giving up Chara & Spezza for that piece of trash was a joke. They're going to take a cap hit on Yashin until the 2015 season.

Now it is a horrible trade no doubt about it, but back then when it was made it seemed fair. Yashin was at the top of his game, and had Carole Alt!. Chara was nothing more than a sideshow because of his size and there were serious questions as to how long he would be around. He never showed much of the talent he has now. The 1st round pick which turned into Spezza was a crapshoot. The Sens could have taken anyone.

The Luongo trade however, everyone knew that was a bad deal the second it happened. The one saving grace for Isles fans I guess is that Florida never did much with him and got fleeced themselves by the Canucks years later for Lou.

The saving grace for Isles fans up to this point is Luongo hasn't won a Cup. That might change this season, but I hope not.

The Islanders have asked their fans to wear white tonight at the NVMC. They asked the Caps if they could wear their white road jerseys but were declined.

I'm confused. If the Isles are having a whiteout, why would they ask the Caps to wear their white jerseys? And why would the Caps decline if those are the jerseys they always wear on the road?

They asked the Caps to wear their red jerseys & they said no. I don't know why. I messed up that part of my post & didn't catch it in time to edit it.

Sorry.

Ahhhh. That makes sense. I'm going to take a total guess and say the road team had already packed up for the trip and the Isles asked them too late. But no idea.

Lots of changes for the Caps tonight...

-Varly was supposed to start in net, but tweaked something in practice, so Neuvirth will start with Todd Ford backing him up after signing a contract today b/c of injuries to two minor league goalies
-Perreault to Bears ( :( ), Beagle called up to the Caps
-Mike Green is out after a week where he had the flu, took another head shot, and his grandmother died
-Capitals claim Marco Sturm, but he's not playing this evening.

Craziness.

Yeah the Islanders probably asked too late. The last big crowd they had was against Boston & they lost 6-3 so hopefully they play better tonight.
