Is there anything worse than being a Suns fan?

Browns from 96-17

You all at least had Western Conference Finals

I know the Browns have been awful but don't penalize them for the '96 to the '98 seasons when the team wasn't there. That's just mean. '99 though. An expansion team starting a rookie QB. That worked out well didn't it?

Couch was a victim of that team. Had they been more stable, he could've worked out.

That's what I've always said. He was put in a bad situation his rookie year.

The Magic haven't shown enough patience. The one year they did pick #2, they took Oladipo but didn't keep him long enough to see him blossom. Dumped Hezonja and Sabonis as well. Hell, Bamba was on the trade block this year already.

The Wolves could be in serious trouble. Towns' extension kicks in next year, so they will have $91M tied up in Wiggins, Towns, Teague (player option) and Dieng alone. Rose won't continue to be cheap, and he'll be a FA. Saric will be up for an extension soon. Covington is another 11-12M per.

yeah well that contributes to my overall reasoning that the magic aren't a well run organization. The thing will Oladipo was that being he was selected so high he did have pressure to become the savior of the franchise then when the magic weren't winning he got shipped off. But coming off as a role from OKC and going to Indiana where he is familiar and played college basketball there for 3 years people cheered for him there was no pressure and he was able to change his career. As a Gonzaga fan I always said the magic will regret trading away Sabonis and thank god OKC trading him away too. I know he would become a solid 18ppg 11reb kind of guy

Being a Warriors fan from 1995 to 2006 was pretty rough.

Yes. This 10 year stretch doesn’t completely erase the 40 pretty darn good years prior. Imagine being one of the worst teams for a decade straight and still having an all time win% of .535.

Where the Suns went wrong was that 3 PG system which was never going to work.

Maybe if they gave IT money to a player at another position then I could see a Dragic/Bledsoe back court working.

The crazy thing is they went from having 3 really good PGs to having 0 adequate PGs. Really, I think that is their single biggest issue today. Get them a top 20 PG in free agency and they improve by at least 10- 15 wins. Add another hit in this year's draft and they could contend for the playoffs like the Kings have this year.

If the Sixers never win a title with Embiid/Simmons, did the process really work?

I would also say yes if they are one of the 3-4 teams in the conversation every year.

Where the 90s Jazz a failure? No. They just ran into a dynasty in the Finals twice. While I do think the Westbrook/KD team underachieved somewhat given their talent, I also don't think it is fair to say their rebuild didn't work. OKC has been relevant for most of a decade.

Slightly different though because those teams were not intentionally tanking for 4 years but I do get your point.

I would say no. Simply because the tanking was to get high draft picks and turn into a contender. If I'm tanking for so many years then I want to win a title with some of those players I tanked hard for.

Sixers winning a title let's say in 2028 for example with those guys on other teams IMO would mean the process did not work as well as they wished.

I would say "yes-ish". lol

Yes, because they got back to where they are relevant and are contenders.

No, because the ultimate goal was still to win a title.

Currently yes there is. The Suns have the best shot to get the #1 pick in the draft, so you have hope.
The Pacers have zero hope of landing a top 4 player in the league. They just win enough to make the playoffs every year. The ceiling is the Eastern Conference Finals. The Floor is the 6th or 7th seed and a first round exit. Been happening for 20 years or more with no end in sight. At least with the Suns, there is hope.

The new lottery format makes it where the top 3 teams each have a 14 percent shot at the 1st pick. Also, no way in hell the NBA gives us back to back 1st picks. I’m just sick of tanking with zero (or negative) progress each year. Getting old.

That set them so far back. That fluke year where they won 48 games in their rebuild and finished as a 9 seed somehow was the worst thing that ever happened to their “rebuild”. No playoffs, had false hope of being a playoff contender, late lotto pick. Complete disaster.

Imagine IF they could have managed to keep RW, KD, and Harden and kept them all happy? Could have been a sick dynasty.

Would have been really hard for Russ and Harden to play together though. They probably would have won 1 or 2 rings, but I think it would have been more like the Heat than an actual dynasty. A really good championship caliber team, but not one that steamrolls the competition every year.

I think a good to great coach could have made it work.

Well,

Neither Scott Brooks nor Billy Donovan was anything resembling that.

And I don't think Harden ever develops into the player he is today playing alongside Russ and KD.

In fact, I will go so far as to say that Scott Brooks is the culprit at fault for the KD/Russ divorce.

Had he even tried to reign Russ in, it would have worked.
