I was watching the Tigers vs. Yankees today when I noticed something that Phil Coke was doing that tipped is pitches to the hitter.

Before Coke becomes set in the stretch, he will either lift his elbow (throwing arm) about his shoulder or he will not lift his elbow (or atleast not in such an exaggerated fashion).

When he lifts his elbow above his shoulder before being set to deliver, he's going to throw his curveball

When he doesnt lift his elbow, the fastball is coming.

Has anyone else picked up on this? I know Yankee hitters did

Yes, the opposing team gets excited and more focused when they announce he is coming in. They love BP with a crowd.

Phil Coke doesnt throw BP by any means. when you tip your pitches, you've withdrawn any element of suprise and you're at the mercy of the hitter

If it is that simple - I am sure his own players/coaches have told him. The Yankee hitters are no smarter than players on any other team
