POLL Is Greinke a HOF?

Is Zack Greinke a Hall of Famer?

  • Yes. Even if he retired right now.

  • Not if he retired now, but probably so by the time he retires.

  • He has a lot of work to do still, but maybe.

  • No way.

  • Tater salad.

Is Zack Greinke a Hall of Famer? Looking at his career numbers and his consistency for as long as he's been good puts up a better argument than I would've initially thought before I looked at his career stats.

He'll probably end up in prison for murdering half his team and Yasiel Puig, thereby disqualifying him for the HoF.

He has crazy eyes. Guy is a psycho. :bolt:

Unless he plays for my team. Then he's just fiery. :suds:

Doubt it.

Two great years. He'd need a couple more realllly good ones. And then he'd need to not seem like such a dick.

I'd say yes. He's been fairly durable, strong career numbers, has consistently been a very good pitcher and has two historically good seasons under his belt.

those two great years are probably two of the greatest seasons of this century.
Yeah?

2009 prolly was. Not sure he was the best starter on his own team in 2015. Kershaw sat down 300+ that year. Greinke had a stupid ERA though.

He also followed both up with 4+ ERAs the next season.

TBH, I've never really spent any time thinking about what the best single seasons of this century are. Top Ten would be fun to try and sift out.

I really can see Greinke falling thru the cracks when it comes to the HOF.

But I think he has the advantage of longevity already on his side. His career numbers will be significant with counting stats when he's done. But so will those of a lot of his contemporaries.

Barring a weird late career boost, no.

He's been a really solid pitcher for most of his career and had 2 great years.

He's Mike Mussina with a Cy Young.

Not only did Greinke have that ridiculous ERA in 2015, but he had (and still has) the best single-season WHIP since Pedro's 2000.

I'd also say his 2017 was great, considering he was easily a top 5 NL pitcher and top 7-8 pitcher overall. He's had a number of other seasons that were 'good/very good' but a bit short of great.

Greinke is close... But he does have a couple problems...

He has had 4 seasons of better than 3.00 ERA, but only 3 of those were over 200 innings... And 3 of those were in the NL, where stats like that happen more Frequently

Outside of those 4 seasons, his best ERA is a 3.20...

Point is, although he does have the ELITENESS for his BEST seasons, he may have been too mediocre outside of it...

and what hurts him is that he pitched in the same time as Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, and Justin Verlander... 3 pitchers who are pretty clearly above him on any list... Always hard to make it when you are not seen to be even CLOSE to the best of a generation...

Not only that, but 2 of those seasons (2013-2014) were very low scoring years in general (league average ERA was under 3.90 for those two years). A total of 22 starters in 2014 for instance had an ERA under 3.00, so it wasn't all that special that year.

his 2017/2018 seasons are arguably more impressive than his sub-3 ERA seasons in 2013-14 (though they're still very good years). A low 3's ERA in Chase Field is always pretty impressive.

Those definitely weren't his only two good seasons.

But if it's a HOF resume we're looking for, I just don't see it.

Dave McNally is above him on that WHIP list. 50 years after his best season, I can't make a strong case for him either. Even though he was a damn good starter, like Greinke.
