Has nothing to do with the rules. Those crying just don't like the team that won. End of story.
Pettigrew got a step on Hitchens, who grabbed the back of Pettigrew's jersey with his left hand in violation of the NFL's defensive holding rule. This was a point-of-emphasis penalty in 2014 and was called a league-record 347 times during the regular season. No penalty was called.
As the ball approached the 25-yard line, both Pettigrew and Hitchens initiated contact with each other. Pettigrew put his hands on Hitchens' face mask, which could (and should) have been a penalty for violating Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14 of the NFL rule book. ("No player shall grasp and control, twist, turn push or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction.")
Pettigrew wasn't penalized, but Hitchens was initially called for defensive pass interference. Specifically, Hitchens appeared to violate Rule 8, Section 5, Article 2(a) of the NFL rule book, which prohibits "contact by a player who is not playing the ball that restricts the opponent's ability to make the catch."
Hitchens never turned around, so by definition he was not playing the ball. Pettigrew slowed a bit in his attempt to make the catch. Hitchens collided with him, leading with his left arm, knocking Pettigrew on his back.
Seconds later, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant ran onto the field to protest the call. He was not wearing a helmet. Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(j) prohibits "removal of a helmet by a player in the field of play or the end zone during a celebration or demonstration or during a confrontation with a game official or any other player."
I believe it. You can't create contact and then complain because that created contact wasn't called. The way the situation went down with the call then reverse was a clusterfluff, but that doesn't take away from teh fact that offensive PI was the complete wrong call.
I was beginning to think I was the only person in America who saw the face mask last night.

Haha, bullshit. They don't like the manner in how they won.
Bryant had no business on that field. The incompetent officials simply didn't put two and two together. It's one thing when a player, on the field, removes his helmet (which should be a penalty and is called more often when a player gets into the face of an official - really determines what is said) and when an idiot storms the field from the sideline. The officials missed it.
That crew was shit, but go on and defend them.
I want to know how that play would be called if it happened again... The problem is that we will never know, the refs all support eachother and don't often admit mistakes... Maybe if they could admit mistakes we wouldn't always have to argue like this...
Freudian slip there Fordman ? Pettigrew got a hand on his helmet after he was pushed away from where the ball was coming down You must be kidding with this. Facemask is all you guys have here. There were 3 Dallas penalties on the play... 2 during and 1 dead ball.
Whether you think the call was right or not, it was too close to overrule. The fact that they reversed it after the call had already been announced is unprecedented and unfathomable. Terrible. Shady as f**k.
As can be seen in the other view Hitchens whacks the guys arm because he is TRYING TO GET IT DISLODGED FROM HIS FACE MASK WHICH IS PREVENTING HIM FROM TURNING AROUND AND MAKING A PLAY ON THE BALL.
Ya know, offensive PI.
HAHAHA! The only way he was looking for the ball was by the reflection in Pettigrew's eyes...
