I don’t think so, he’s good because he’s surrounded by a great team. He doesn’t necessarily make the team better on his own.

Tend to agree but he stepped up vs the Rams when the defense allowed 27 points.

Yeah, he’s been good this year. Elite is a term I don’t use loosely. If he continues to play well for multiple seasons then I’d consider bumping him up past good or very good.

All depends on how you measure QB success.

He's a top 10 guy right now, but if his play is key in winning Sunday he has to be close to top 5 or 6.

Sure, Lamar and Allen have more raw talent or physical traits, but they keep choking big games away as bad as Darnold was getting shit for, and Lamar certainly had a stacked team. So they continue to get passes for being elite even though they can't finish the job. Why not Darnold if he does?

I agree, it’s hard to forget last year’s playoff performance from him, the only thing he can do for himself now is have sustained success, if he does that, there’s no reason for him to not be considered near the top of the QB list.

It doesn’t help that he’s not flashy either, which matters to some.

Yeah, it's just hard for most people to change their perception of someone either way, which is why I bring up Allen and Lamar. Neither of them won 14+ games 2 years in a row. I'm not saying he's there, but people have to admit he's trending up more than down.

No, he’s good but not elite, he would have to cut down on the turnovers to be elite.

He's almost the average man, the guy next door type.

He definitely is trending upward.

SBs help to define what level tag you want to throw on a QB. Combined with multiple years of success, mediocrity or bad play. This game will help frame that. If he plays outstanding he moves up from avg to good/ very good. If he has a terrible game he probably stays at a level of avg. Put together a few more good to very good seasons and he moves up to very good, possibly nearing the elite level.

God, I hate the term "elite". Sam is a good QB with all the tools and is a winner and a great dude in the locker room. I honestly don't give a F... about where anybody wants to rank the guy. All I know for sure is that Sam is a huge upgrade from Geno (which I honestly didn't believe last year when all this happened), and he is a better pure QB than Russ was. RW was more of a dual threat but as a passer, Sam is better. So that being said, I'm happy the Hawks got him and that they didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for him. Given how Kirk Cousins has fleeced teams and how teams are throwing money at guys like Tua, Schneider hit this one out of the park. Every other thing in this conversation is pretty much useless BS.

He has settled a bit into a Philip Rivers type of space imo. If you give him a big mismatch in the middle of the field he'll tear you up but also maybe a few too many turnovers to ever be top 3 or top 5.

You definitely don't need an elite QB when you have a stacked team. Just a top 15 QB. We saw this last year. If Seattle has a top 15 QB, top 5 WR, and top 5 defense moving forward they are always going to be good.
