Ok, we are making strides and overcoming some injuries and bad coaching but realistically we need to start looking at 2014.

If I was Les Snead, here is what I would want to do with the Rams:

1. Cut ties with Bradford. He may become a decent QB, but he needs a change of scenery with no expectations.
2. Cut ties with Langford, Wells and Dahl.
3. Move Finnegan to Safety and ask him to restructure his deal.
4. Resign Saffold to a 1-2 year deal, but only if he agrees to a full time move to OG. If not, buh bye
5. Cut Pead and Quick. Sorry they are busts. Quick has turned into a taller version of Mardy Gilyard.
6. Fire Shotty. Nuff Said
7. With all the salary coming off the books, we make one HUGE splash in free agency
SIGN BRIAN ORAKPO!!!

Then, in the draft, make sure we secure another QB to build around (Boyd,McCarron,Carr,Morris),a TRUE #1 WR (Watkins,Evans or Lee), a RT (Lewan,Kouandjio or Scherff), a run stuffing DT and another S.

O line would look like this: Long,Williams,Jones,Saffold, rookie OT
D line would look like this: Long,Brockers, rookie DT,Quinn
LB's would look like this: Ogletree,JL55,Orakpo
DB's would look like this: Jenkins,Finnegan,McDonald,Johnson

Sit tight in the draft and see what QB falls in my lap. And draft 2 special players in the 1st.

<-------I would also hire this guy. :hdn:

And I would bring in KSU as well. Even though you cannot cut quick - you don't cut third-year wide receivers that you picked at the top of the 2nd round. Pead can take a hike.

2. I'd be comfortable with Dahl and Langford hanging on for their respective contracts. Why create more immediate holes in the roster than necessary, all at once? Pending what's going on with Barrett Jones, I'd be fine with Scott Wells' departure.

3. I like this one, if Finnegan is willing to do it. Again... saves an unnecessary hole to fill.

4. I like this idea, too. But, pending interest from elsewhere, you probably won't like the asking price even to keep him at guard. Hard-lining Saffold will probably push him out the door faster.

5. Pead? Absolutely. Although, I'm not sure I'd be so quick to jettison Brian (yes... pun intended ;) ). It's not like he's making zero progress. Plus, the third year is usually the breakout one for WRs. (See guys like Vincent Jackson, Eric Decker and even Terrell Owens.

6. Eh... there's arguments both for and against that one. Guess I wouldn't be all that disappointed either way.

7. I'm cool with the whole "big splash" thing, but Orakpo? Seems like just a reach for a "name guy". We're already pretty strong on the pass rush and he doesn't even fit the current scheme.

1. cutting ties with Bradford will depend on two things. If he is willing to do some sort of restructuring so we can free up much needed cap room, and how his knee progresses. If he's 100% by week one and he restructures he'll still be a Ram.
2. Langford will still be a Ram, he's done a 180 in the last 3 games. Has actually outplayed Brockers. Before that, yes he was playing bad football but if he continues to improve why create another hole? I expect us to draft another DT with in the first 3 rounds anyways. I'd Hang on to Dahl for a backup swing guard. I'm ok with letting Wells go.
3. I don't know if Finnegan would survive playing Saftey, he's not a very big hitter and often gets lost in space, which is what safety's are supposed to excel at. Every time he gives up a big play it's because he's playing zone. I say cut ties with him altogether.
4. I would love to have Saffold back @ guard. I would even move him over to J Long's side.
5. Yes to cutting Pead, No to cutting Quick. I see that Pead is a bust, I don't think Quick will be one. He's shown flashes of who we drafted him to be. He just has to learn to be consistent which is what usually happens year 3.
6. I'd only be ok with getting rid of schotty if we got another guy in here who ran the exact same system. I'd give him one more year anyways. if he and Bradford don't get it done then say goodbye to both of them.
I would be more interested in getting Holt to be our WR coach, what could it hurt? We know Holt was a top notch WR why not let him show the other WR's why he was a top WR. They couldn't be any worse.
7. It's statements like this that make me glad you don't and will never run an NFL franchise.

Your draft depends on whether or not we hold on to certain players. It's too early to tell what's going to happen with these players.

Been doing ya homework GM ksu? OK, I go one on down because the Rams are truly looking at 2014 now.

1 Bradford, and purely depends how the knee comes out and if he is willing to take the pay cut or restructure completely, he can stay but the Rams will draft his replacement and someone that if he struggles will see the field today.

2 I would cut Wells and Dahl at least for the money space. Hope Jones can play. Langford I would keep if the money is right, he is playing good right now.

3 I also have my doubts Finnegan can play safety, I know CB is out. 6 games left, test run anyone for some looks? Otherwise, see ya.

4 I liked Saffold last week at OG, also like the idea of moving him next to Long. He could be all pro if he gets his head on right. If he is stuck on LT, let him go, we are drafting a RT.

5 Actually Quick might turn into Randy Moss, OK that is a stretch but I like him enough to keep him, Pead can go on the next bus now.

6 Yea dump Shotts.......

7 Orakpo, OK I can go there, or any real good OLB to go opposite the rookie.

All your draft picks are pretty good ksu and if we go anywhere near there, the Rams will win the draft. Nice job.

Ok... I was throwing out a name that has performed at a high level when I named Orakpo. There as about 12-13 guys I would spend money on at OLB that would be an upgrade from Dunbar. For that matter if Finnegan is not willing to move and/or restructure, let him go and sign someone like Jarius Byrd.

Yea Dunbar is a keeper because the other defensive players like the guy and he gets everyone else to up their games when he is in there. Jarius Byrd is a better Finnegan at Safety and the money we would save jettisoning Finnegan could be spent on Byrd. Since it looks like we will be picking at 6 and 12 (or somewhere near these two spots) I'd make sure we select Matthews and only take Kouandjio if Matthews is gone by six which I don't anticipate.

As things look now, OT (Matthews) and DT (Nix III) are the projected position selections as I've previously stated and draft sites, for the most part, are coming around to.

QB in round two is a must. Let's hope it's someone the board likes because I doubt the front office can resist a "lemon" - McCarron.

Pretty much spot on. 50/50 Bradford's back with the team - if its with a reasonable salary ($10 million or so) for a starter I'd be OK with that. Blowing up the rest of the team, basically gutting it of almost all of its veteran leadership, wouldn't help.

Finnegan should be gone unless it turns out he's been playing with a significant injury - at $10 million a year he's WAAAY to expensive for the role he's playing, and Jenkins and Johnson should be good as starting corners.

Pead needs to go unless he makes a quantum leap before the end of the year.

Wells is iffy- at the beginning when we absolutely could not run the ball I was certainly thinking he needed to go, but the line seems to have come a long way and keeping him in wouldn't be a bad idea. It doesn't look like we have a viable option to replace him.

Dahl is going to depend on Saffold. If Saffold will sign for guard money, Dahl becomes expendable.

Honestly I think we are a lot closer this year to being a contender than we were last year - so much young raw talent that is developing. Personally I think Quick is going to be a keeper.

One more good draft and I think we are set for a nice run.

Oh, and a pass on Orakpo. I live in Skins country, and he hasn't been strong this year, one of the reasons the Skins defense just disappeared. His best season was his rookie year, since then he's just been OK. And he's far more of a 3-4 rush OLB, only OK against the run and something of a liability against the pass. Not what we need here at all.

RamCub, the only mock I have seen where Nix is in the mix is on CBS. Most mocks I see have us getting an OT (Matthews, Lewan or Kouandjio) and Ha-Ha Clinton Dix. To me Dix is good, but is he THAT much better than Craig Loston from LSU who is slotted in the late 2nd/early 3rd?

Ok, maybe I was off a little on Orakpo... maybe we spend the money on 2 players instead of 1. How about bringing in a younger veteran DT like Alan Branch AND a Safety like Bernard Pollard.

Bottom line is by the time free agency and the draft are done, we need to have a new QB that has the potential to start right away, a RT, a run stuffer, game breaking WR and ball hawking safety.

I agree with everything you said KSU. I would also get rid of our "deer in the headlights" DC Walton as well. I don't know about Orakpo though. May be past his prime, and apparently he also cheats at scrabble from what I hear :)

I' ll keep my eye out for other sites.

Walterfootball has not been very good at their predictions. Matthew is way better than Lewan and bigger. Besides, Fisher played with and coached his uncle and/or dad. Take Matthews you freakin' knucklehead! Dix or Nix I'd be satisfied, just so we don't pick-up another reach WR in the first or second and essentially blow our draft up. Just go with the blue chippers available when we pick for crying out loud!

Retro - I'm with ya! Charlie at Walterfootball had Matthews going at pick #3 ahead of the Rams pick.

My hope is we do go OT and DT - best blue chip studs available at those positions!

Retro, there is no way Matthews lasts to #6. Sorry but it is not happening. Take the best OT available and the WR available in round 1. Take the QB in round 2 and take the DT in round 3
