Me too, hence the sad threadseason's young, but damn i wanted some suzuki at the cove
i'm not a deal guy, just would have like to seen suzuki here. he'd be huge with the japanese community and obviously a talent. is he worth the risk of long term $$/contract? maybe, maybe not. we've done worseSo you guys would have been ok doing a 5/100 on an unproven commodity from Japan?
No 20/20 hindsight cheating. AT THE TIME, you would have been OK with that deal?
No hindsight, yes I was fine with it, he's only 27, and $20 mil is not much. We're trying to beat the Dodgers here, we can't always cheap out.So you guys would have been ok doing a 5/100 on an unproven commodity from Japan?

Obviously no one is saying that will be his line all year. I just felt strongly he was ready for primetime. The club WINS by having that production in the lineup, not every dollar has to be perfectly spent. $20 mil for age 27-32 of a sort of can't miss guy is a reasonable gamble. Again, we're trying to chase a superteam and we're not overspending.1) let’s see his numbers at the end of the season. (Spoiler: he won’t have a slash line of .407/.553/.926)
2) When his deal with the Cubs was announced, I AT THE TIME (no retcon’ing needed) said that was too rich of a deal and I was glad the Giants didn’t match/beat it. Paying him like an established star makes no sense. That leaves next to no room for the club to “win”.
Imagine our record now if we had actually signed him instead of skimping and letting the Cubs sign him.Obviously no one is saying that will be his line all year. LOL you're not gonna convince me I was wrong to want him because I wasn'tImagine our record now if we had actually signed him instead of skimping and letting the Cubs sign him.
You think we could dare to dream of, oh, I don’t know…
Maybe a 7-2 record?
That would just be crazy pie in the sky thinking, I know.
Who’s trying to convince anyone of Jack?LOL you're not gonna convince me I was wrong to want him because I wasn't

calsnowskier = zaidi ?
woulda made me a little queasy, but yeah. I think I would have. However, I completely understand that FZ didn't want to. End of the day: I trust FZ.So you guys would have been ok doing a 5/100 on an unproven commodity from Japan?

There's the rub. Was he "can't miss," "maybe miss," "likely to miss?"Obviously no one is saying that will be his line all year. I just felt strongly he was ready for primetime. I stand by it. I had a feeling he was legit.There's the rub. Was he "can't miss," "maybe miss," "likely to miss?"
Its why FZ gets paid large dollars. He's not going to be 100% right, but he's right A LOT. He passed on Gausman, for instance.
I'm with cal here, msg. Not to gang up, but your take at the time was to pay the money. That's noted and you may be right. I just don't know if getting him would have changed things a ton. Maybe. But, maybe not.Who’s trying to convince anyone of Jack?
It wasn't that much money, the player's age was right, and it was a sure fill to a need. I get that FZ is the one who calls the shots and he obviously knows what's he's doing but I think of this as a miss.I'm with cal here, msg. Also, powder is dry for the trade deadline.
Definitely possible this is fools gold with him but the early start shows he's at least ready for this and not a bust.woulda made me a little queasy, but yeah. I think I would have. However, I completely understand that FZ didn't want to. End of the day: I trust FZ.
Also, lets see how he's doing at the ASB when the league has a book on him.
