Watched the condensed verison of that Bruins/Stars game from Feb. 3, 2011 yesterday. What a fucking game... Still pissed I wasn't there. I had intentions on going to that one.

I remember Nate (hawaiifivepointzero) had a pretty awesome youtube vid of all the fights.

Ference and Adam Burish (FSY) squared off in the fourth fight of the period at 3:51 as the game stirred memories of the Bruins' record-setting 5-1 victory in Boston on Feb. 26, 1981, when the Minnesota North Stars and Bruins combined for 406 penalty minutes. Former Bruin Steve Kasper, who kicked things off seven seconds into that contest in a fight with Bobby Smith, was in attendance.

"I've heard of it (the game in 1981), I haven't watched it, but maybe they (the Stars) wanted to do the same thing," Bruins forward Brad Marchand (FSY) said.

Didn't even know about that till now. Pretty cool.

I watched that game on TV. Minnesota coach Glen Sonmore was tired of the Bruins style of play whenever the Stars played the Bruins. The Stars were always a pushover when they played the Bruins. Before the game, Sonmore told the team, no, ordered the team to start the game and continue to play that way. From that game on, the Bruins had more respect for the Stars. The Stars went on to make it to the Stanley Cup Final and lost to the Islanders.

From the days of yore

In the early 70's the Flyers were constantly getting pushed around.Management decided to draft a shitload of "skilled" players from the WHL-western hockey league. With the likes of Dave"the hammer"Schultz,Andre"Moose"Dupont,Don "Big bird"Saleski.Bob "Hounddog"Kelly,etc..there came the birth of the "Broadstreet Bullies".

Glen Sonmor was known to tip a few back, so I'd bet he was half in the bag and just said if we can't beat them, we beat them up. It ushered in the Norris division I grew up on.

Jeff, I'm telling you, you were born a little too late - the Norris was for you. While most NHL teams were attempting to win the Cup, the Norris was attmepting to beat each other up.

Nah, he'd get hooked on the Adams Division after 1 year. Bruins, Canadiens, Nordiques, Whalers and Sabres were always great games.
