I think it was mad who posted it… well… that is like me posting it… but… I digress…

I was wrong about Gibby. I did not think he could handle the DC responsibility… I did not think the WVU defense would be in good hands. I didn't think WVU's defense would have success this year.

And, I was wrong.

I got into a Twitter back and forth with one of his former players last year. Can't remember who… but… he was right. He said Gibby was a great coach. He said the players love him and would lay it on the line for him.

I remember some of the comments attributed to him by some of our former players. I remember some of the poor play of the CB's when he was their coach. But, that was the past… and, he has proven himself.

The defense… while not achieving great statistics and national rankings in Total Defense.. is playing great. Anyone who watched yesterday's game, could see who was in charge.

Not Tom Bradley. Tony Gibson….

From Bruce Feldman…

Last year #WVU ranked 91st in 3rd Down D (43% allowed). In past month, Tony Gibson's D is holding teams to 21% & Baylor/OKSt were just 16%

:agree:

I'm in the same boat. When players said they loved playing for him, I didn't have a warm feeling about player endorsements since Pat White gave his seal of approval after the Fiesta Bowl. For the same reason BB mentions, under his guidance, the DBs were bad, imho. He seems to be letting the DBs play by being creative in the different packages.
Good job Tony. You've made a believer out of me. It appears that a position coach can become a good DC and a OC can become a good HC. Wonder if others can see the same.

I never wanted 3-3-5 to leave, wasn't sure about Gibson.

Funny to think Defo deserves some credit with DBs as well.

I know ST's has had some repeated issues this year… but, how did they perform yesterday? Okie St had one of the most dangerous return men in the country. What kind of day did he have?

DeForest is in charge of the safeties. Two INT's by Henry… one for a pick 6.

Who recruited the PK? The punter?

I like the 3-3-5, was glad when Gibson was hired and announced he was bringing it back, I think that base defense is Taylor made to stop B12 style offenses. OSUs dangerous return man was cramping most of the game, plus for once, most of our kick offs went deep into the end zone, punts were near perfect, STs did a good job Saturday. As to the pick six, how do you credit Efore with anything to do with that? You are trying to give him props for that, but won't give him blame for the ST gaffes.............

I give credit to Gibson, he is the DC but I still think Bradley has a ton if influence. Ill be honest I don't care and I don't think either one of them do either who gets any credit, I'm just glad the defense is at least existent this year after the last few. I don't care for the 3-3-5 as far as being a championship caliber defense but I said before the season started, any defense, ANY AT ALL, no matter the look, be it 3-3-5, 4-2-5, 4-4 ect..would be ok by me if it worked and became a factor in the game, It IS doing that now so...cool with me.

I worry that the right match up offensively is going to break our hearts/bring us back to reality but then again, in THIS conference and this era of potent offenses it may be our best bet for the time being.

Gibson is calling good games as well and the players are executing very well. Plus we have a lot of guys on that side of the ball with a lot of career snaps...seems to be coming together.

Until here he was a well respected STs coach and safeties coach. We have had issues, but not last 3 games so we are showing improvement. I mean it sounds like the staff has tried just about everyone on team to catch punts....no one can do it. Lol

How do I give credit to DeForest for the pick 6? He coaches the safeties… plain and simple. He credits Henry with being a great student of the game. He told Gibby he knew Henry would have a great game because he had worked hard studying film with him all week. The pick 6 was a play where he was in the right place at the right time.

But, if someone like yourself wants to blame DeForest for every mistake made by a ST player… then doesn't it follow your logic to give him credit for every good play made by one of his players?

A desperation pass thrown straight to a DB is credited to Efore?????? Yet the constant fair catches inside the 10, KO team unable to tackle the returner due to being in the wrong place, miffed punts over and over, the place kicker being moving, even though not caught is not on the ST coach, WOW

There's so much wrong with this post… it would take awhile to sort through each misspoken issue….

They have tackled the returner on all but two KO returns...so you want to start blaming him for penalties not called on our team?

When I brought that up I was just mentioning he has had a part in helping this defense get better by coaching the DBs and by the way most interceptions are bad passes

Amazing how some make stuff up to keep a discussion going. Everybody sees the improvement in the team from the AD down. Some think that all this happened overnight, which is very amusing. Like a little kid who holds his breath until he gets his way. Annoying and hysterical at the same time.

Look at the Times of the posts of three of the quartet. Just whatever wrong with my previous post? A DB intercepts a desperation pass, so suddenly Efore is a genius, wow

Nobody said DeForest is a genius. Just using your logic about his players making plays. It's your logic... embrace it....

Anyway just like BB said no one talked about Defo being a genius, I just was mentioning he put in work on the defense as well....you know just like you giving credit to Bradley for changing everything about DH :L

I'm going to get you off the hook here brother!...you weren't wrong ( GOD I can't believe that has come out of my mouth after all our years of bantering! LOL!) ..Gibby was an unknown.who knew ehat we were going to get...first year guy..following a ton of volatility in DC turnover..tough to have faith a new DC or even an experienced one could have a huge impact in year one of their reign...really can't lay at his feet the way the DB's performed in the past..all an Asst. Coach is supposed to do is get their kids ready to play on Saturdays..the DC at the end of the day calls the defenses when it's game day...on game day all they really do is help the kids through adjustments when needed...and you have to think about the talent he had then...he had some really good ones...and some really not so good ones to work with...IMHO the jury is still out on GIBBY...it's nice to see him have this kind of success....let's see how that looks 2 years from now...and if they continue to improve..

IMHO this team is not playing a true 3-3...kind of a hybrid...and I'm OKay with that!

I know ST's has had some repeated issues this year… but, how did they perform yesterday? Okie St had one of the most dangerous return men in the country. What kind of day did he have?

I saw the OK St speedster(#24) Hill up close and yes he is dangerous and very fast, but I also saw a very fast speed guy for WVU (#5) Alford; he is good too. It appeared both teams tried to kick away from the other teams fast guy, but there was a few times Hill had a few more opportunities than Alford had and WVU covered him pretty good. That was one of my biggest fear in the game that Hill would return a kickoff or punt back for a touchdown. The special teams played pretty good.

Speaking of special teams, did anyone noticed how many different punt returners fielded the punts for WVU? I counted four, but I could be wrong.
