I dumped DirecTV in December. Was going to get an antenna. Missed TV for 2 days. Haven't missed it since. Probably won't even bother to get the antenna. Savings - All of it.

The antenna is a must. You have to find where the tower is at and then find an antenna that fits the distance away from the antenna. Plug in your zip code: AntennaPoint.com - Antenna Locator

The tower is about 30-35 miles away from my house. Once you find out where the antenna is, get the right antenna and point towards the tower.

Here is the antenna I got off amazon. 50 Miles Reception Amplified HDTV Antenna, SOAIY® Ultra Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna Built-in Amplifier for UHF/VHF with 16.5ft Coaxial Cable

I love bending over the cable bastards.

Hulu fits perfectly in my schedule. I like to watch new shows when they are released & summer time is usually when I work the most, 50-60 hours a week in 110 degree weather. Other than take a lot of showers & sleep, I don't do much during those months.
Yeah, I'm just saying it doesn't make sense to pay for it then. Plus they will throw a free month offer at you when the fall shows start back up. Win win.

I have a RCA and a GE amplified antenna. The GE blows the RCA out of the water when it comes to reception and they were both basically the same price.

Our cable bill (Comcast with the next to top tier) was raised to $210 a few months ago. The wife called and tried to talk them down and they said no. So we decided to dump it and go internet only. So she called them Monday and asked what internet only would cost. Well, they agreed to drop our cable bill to $150. So I guess we will stay cable for awhile longer.

The bill is a bundle....TV, internet and phone.

Internet and phone (the wife wants a land line for some reason) would cost us $90 alone. Add netflix, hulu and sling (for ESPN) and we would be at around $125.

Like AntennaWeb.org

This will show you where the towers are down there. If you are close to a city, you don't need anything special antenna wise.. But if you are in the boonies, you will need an amplified antenna. Both are not expensive.

Where at in FL? I lived in New Smyrna Beach from 2004-2010 and Orlando from 1998-2002
I was thinking about doing this until I clicked that link. If it's accurate I would get CBS and CW. That's it.

Depends on the antenna. If you are in the boonies, you need to get an amplifier with your antenna.

I have the ROKU which is basically what the OP is mentioning. I love it. It saves me a ton of $$$. I have NETFLIX, HBO GO, and many others. Bottom line is I don't have a monthly bill. I downloaded the ESPN App so I can watch NCAAA football and Hoops. This is an excellent way to cut the bills down.

Have u tried the Roku4 yet? I got the upgraded 2, which was essentially the roku3 but not with voice command.

You get plenty of TV with the Roku and Netflix.

I don't have the ROKU4.. What features does it have versus the other ROKU? I love the ROKU, especially like you were saying, fuck the cable companies. I think the word is out that customers will be making the switch sooner rather than later.

More like you're tired of bending over for them!!! Don't blame you a bit.

You're a little bit ahead of me, but I'm on this same path. Got rid of DTV and the Sunday Tkt for Comcast...we have the blast tier on internet and base cable...for the 2 yr deal, the savings over what we had initially has been $98 a mo.

After this teaser pkg is over in '17...I want to cut the cable off and go with TV on demand myself and an HD antenna for the local. We have a Roku 2 and plan on buying another box.
