I want to start off by saying that money, traditions, and rivalries would never allow this to happen, but what if there was a way to erase all of that and they re-did the conferences?
8 conferences - A conference consists of 16 teams - 4 divisions of 4 teams.
That would be 128 teams in FBS or Div 1-A.
A team plays.
3 out-of-conference games
3 division games
5 cross-division games
11 games
* Winner of division plays in a 4 team conference tournament.
* Conference champions face off in an 8-team tournament to determine NC (a committee seeds teams)
* Non-conference champions play in bowl games if eligible.
In the link below, I made a mock up of what I am talking about. I'm sure I did a terrible job putting the conferences together, and like I said in the beginning that it will never happen. I am interested how you would put together the teams. I was bored and doing this helped waste time.
