No pics but me and a buddy got into a slew of trout with our fly rods Monday afternoon. We hooked and released 23 trout during a raging BWO emerger rise. They were porpoising clear out of the water chasing. It's the easiest hatch to fish and we wrecked em!

Just got back from Missouri. Spent 4 days on a lake all by myself, fishing all day, campfires and stars each night. Caught about 40 bass, some bigger than others but nothing too crazy. Probably a dozen sunfish and 1 nice sized crappie.

It's good for the soul when there's not a soul in sight. You can't put a dollar sign on a peace of mind.

This past year I think I wasted a lot of time trying new baits out. Sitting here thinking about the coming season and I think I'm going to focus on several baits/presentations this year and that's it. I fish shallow rivers for smallmouth so it's all based on that species/environment.

Taking two to three rods with me each trip. I'm going to focus on the Berkley Choppo (whopper plopper) for top water since these are killer in shallow rivers, Jackhammer Chatterbait, Ned Rig, finesse swimbaits, and wacky rigged Senko. I'm going to fight the urge to expand that if at all possible. The more I think about it, finding the fish is the hard part. If I find them, I can't envision not getting them to eat with one of those.

Here are a couple cats from last year. Took the kayaks up a few miles above a giant mud flat, back to where the water turns back into a river. Fished cut bait under a bobber. My buddy and I have always talked about this trip and finally made it happen last May. I'm going to try and make it a yearly trip!

Finally got something to post here. Went bank fishing over the weekend, caught a pretty nice smallmouth out of the Huron River:

Caught it on a 5'' Senko, about 5 feet from the shore; felt like I was snagged on something. Great fighter. Also caught a few 1.5 pound largies but not worth a picture.

I miss the motherland, no going there for family camping trip this year due to the Kung Flu!

Our original trip that we take to Tippy dam every June got the ax this week because they closed all state campgrounds and lodging through the 20th of june. So we moved it to late August. I look forward to it every year because it's the only trip I take without kids or a wife, so it's just dude time. We'll see if this all goes back to somewhat normal by then.

That fish above was the biggest smallie I've ever taken from the Huron River. I run a medium rod and the thing bent in half. More so than even larger smallies I've caught in Canada.

We trolled lake huron for perch, fish the pine and a few other rivers for walleye(best eating fish eva!) i had a dozen ponds near my house in fenton where northern pike were almost 4 ft long. And of course the au sable and some small streams for smelt. Damn I miss all of that fish!

We also stay in oscoda the 4th of July week. The Au Sable is the best River in Michigan. Love that river. Tubing, fishing and then it dumps into the Huron. Hoping that isn’t ruined. The foot dam has some of the biggest pike I’ve seen. That place is littered with them to the point where they’re almost a problem. You can’t catch anything else.
