I wonder if they have the new TV deal factored in.

Either way, there is still going to be much less of a difference between them and the other teams under this current system than there would have been under the old one.

I think the author makes a fair point that there's still work to be done though.

I said it on here a 100 times, the NHL is headed back to the lock out day's. They get some money and go crazy and that's not the way to run a business.

They are fucking it up and someone with an ounce of brains better stop them or they will be in the same situation in a couple of years.

The NFL had an agreement on the CBA and Ralph Wilson and the owner of the Bengals were the ONLY two owners thats said this is a bad deal and we will be sorry if we pass it. The others laughed and now we know where they are.

If you hit a 1000 dollar lottery and blow the money instead of being smart with it, you're broke.

It's happened so many times before I don't even see where it's debateable.

I think it depends on the team. Take the Islanders for instance. Last year they were at the cap floor because of bonuses they didn't have to pay. This year they will do the same thing. Heck the Grabner & Okposo signings were pure genius on Wang's part. For the early part of the contracts he pays Grabner & Okposo less money than the cap hit. The latter part of the deals he pays them a bit more than the cap hit so it will allow the team more money to spend on players if the vote on August 1st goes his way.

If the league doesn't put a hard cap in terms of actual dollars that must be spent contracts like the ones Grabner & Okposo signed will become the norm for all teams.

What CBA? The one they just finished playing under or a recent proposed one? The one they just finished playing under they had been using since 1993. In that time the owners (big and small), players, and the league have all prospered so I think overall it was a very good NFL CBA.

It was a revenue sharing agreement made two years ago. I will try and find a link for you. Trust me the NHL is making a BIG mistake.

Edit: here it is. http://www.buffalorange.com/content...hat-Deal-NFL-Owners-Now-Can-t-Seem-to-Stomach

It was no joke just over five years ago when Wilson and Bengals owner Mike Brown cast the only negative votes in a 30-2 landslide to approve as a package deal the take-it-or-leave-it collective bargaining agreement proposed by the union and a revenue sharing plan among the owners. Looking for peace at any price, the owners caved in.

Two years into the deal, the 30 owners who disagreed with Wilson and Brown suddenly realized they were the ones who made a huge mistake.

OK, not the entire CBA. Thanks for the info, I guess because of how easy it passed I do not recall it at all.
I flip flop back and forth on who I agree with in the NFL's case.

Overall the NFL's CBA has been a very solid and good one. I can see why they need a new one, its a whole new world media and rights-wise than it was in 1993.

No problem my friend. I am just worried where the NHL is headed. The NFL generates so much money the NHL can't compete with that.

I hope it works out but im pessimistic.

Oh I worry too about the next round of talks. I feel the players will have the attitude that they gave the owners what they wanted last time and now its not good enough. Plus the Fehr factor.
