Thought this was relevant after the Dodgers' latest championship.
agree though have heard the union even fights against a floor. No idea why but guessing they have their reasons?Armageddon. I think even the big money teams realize that this can't go on. A cap HAS to be accompanied by a Real salary floor. Pittsburgh and other coupon clipping teams are worse for the game than the Dodger or Mets.
The MLBPA has stated since the 60's that there should be no rules governing players earning power. Most players want to see the luxury tax and revenue sharing abolished. Historically, the Players Union has been one of the strongest unions in history, more than the Teamsters or Steelworkers. And they know the money has a trickle down effect. The salary for a superstar might be silly to some, but if they knew what defensive replacements and LOOGYs made, they would really crap.agree though have heard the union even fights against a floor. I get it, but how would creating a floor (and getting cheap teams to spend more) hurt their earning power? Or are the opposed to a rule hurting or helping their earnings? The MLBPA has stated since the 60's that there should be no rules governing players earning power. They want baseball to be like European football. Zero regulations on the earning potential of a player, good or bad. Given free reign, they would abolish the draft. Probably institute "transfer requests" like Soccer. One year trade me or we rip up the deal.I get it, but how would creating a floor (and getting cheap teams to spend more) hurt their earning power? I agree there needs to be a salary. I would love to see teams like Pittsburgh and Marlins in the hunt year end year out like the dodgers and Yankees are and that’s coming from a Yankees fanArmageddon. I think Pittsburgh is a special case and the league should make Bob Nutting sell. He's not even trying and the fans hate him. Yeah, they have had bad lick. KeBryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz looked like building blocks but the fizzled. They have a #1 overall pick, Henry Davis, who looked like an epic bust. Their lineup isn't fit for the Carolina League. And they have the best pitcher in baseball. I know a lot of Pirates fans and the aren't that excited about Paul Skenes. Always the same response "when with the Pirates trade him?" Nutting is just taking the TV and revenue sharing cast and buying another yachtI agree there needs to be a salary. if anything it's the rules for each that would be ruining baseball.small market teams are ruining baseball
How much more money are franchises worth now compared to the last lockout that cost the MLB schedule some games? How much more are players making? How much larger are the team payrolls? Shee-et, boy, there isn't going to be lockout. Too much money at stake now. Not just for the owners, but the also for the higher profile players who have their own brand that have basically become corporations in their own right.Thought this was relevant after the Dodgers' latest championship.
Would have made any difference if the Blue Jays, Phillies or Mets had won? Their payrolls aren't that much less than the Dodgers.Thought this was relevant after the Dodgers' latest championship.
I can think of a couple, but they may be unrealistic:I get it, but how would creating a floor (and getting cheap teams to spend more) hurt their earning power? Or are the opposed to a rule hurting or helping their earnings?
Those franchises will ultiimately be sold to overseas investors as MLB expands beyond North America. The only thing stopping that expansion now is the restricted speed of air travel. But that will change. If commercial airplane companies harness the ability to double the average speed of commercial flights ffrom 550 MPH to 1100 MPH, franchises in KC, Cincy, Pitts, TB, etc, will be doomed.small market teams are ruining baseball

The next era of international travel is just around the corner, but, don't get ahead of yourself.Heck let's make it 2200MPH
