Right now the AL East has the potential to have 4 great third basemen.

1 Machado right now looks to be the best of the bunch

2 Longo While still great seems to have taken a step back the past two years

3 Middlebrooks potential but has not put it together yet

4 Lawrie This kid might have the most upside of them all, but is also the dumbest of the bunch

5 ARod who would have thought that ARod could have fallen this far.

No offense. But I really hope the yankees are on the hook for the 4 years and 90M left of that contract and don't get the chance to void it. Lawrie doesn't have the most upside but he has more than Middlebrooks. I would rank it:

1. Machado (21 years old and should be a gold glover this year)
2. Longoria (Little bit of a down year but still 30 hr and only 27)
3. Lawrie (23, could be an all-star when he hits his prime and figures out how to be consistent.)
4. Middlebrooks (Just turned 25, should have 30 hr power but he has the worst glove of these 4)
5. A-Roid (I'm so happy he's on the yankees)

And it's now probably over. This game sums up their entire season. Get out to a lead, tons of chances to add runs but don't, let opponent chip away, and then blow it in the 7th inning or later.

No Offense taken I would feel the same way if I rooted for one of the other teams. And yes Machado deserves the GG this year.

Typical Orioles. Score 3 runs off a reliever all game and have your ace give up the lead in the 7th inning.

I'm really starting to hate Wieters. I went from "We need to sign him to an extension" to I hope he we don't pay him. He should be getting better but his average has dropped to .230 this year, his rbi's are mostly because he has been in the 5 or 6 spot all year (.232 avg w/ runners in scoring pos.), he's gone from leading the league in Defensive runs saved in 2011(+17) to the worst catcher in the league in that category (-14). We need to draft a catcher again.

Dan Johnson's fitting right in with this team that loves to strikeout.

*sigh Why do I torture myself by watching these guys. On a day that the yankees, and rangers lost and we have a lead going into the 7th....we lose again. If the game is close, you can just expect us to lose. Worst record in the league in 1 run games.

This reminds me of the graphics that ESPN showed for every team just before the trade deadline... on that chart, a green, yellow, or red shade is displayed for every position to show a team's relative strengths and weaknesses in terms of WAR. If I remember correctly, 2B and DH were red (well below average), while RF, C, SP, and RP were yellow (average to below average). The appearance of RF and C as potential areas of concerns surprised me back then-- but that assessment unfortunately turned out to be correct.

I'll admit that part of me is seriously thinking about simply advancing to the football season. But considering the Ravens' performance in Game 1, part of me wonders if it might be better for me to stay away from watching pro sports until April 2014 (which is not necessarily a bad thing)...
