Don't Blame the Refs
We've been talking enough about the discipline/cheapshot aspect of the game, but how about a round of applause for the hockey we've seen here? I haven't seen every game of every series, but what I have watched has been great.
Granted Philly/Pit has had some pisspoor goaltending/defense, but the storylines alone are enough to make the series really interesting, along with it just being strange in general.
Even though Nashville/Detroit only went five games, I thought game three of that series was one of the best games I've watched during the playoffs thus far.
You have every East series at 3-2 with the supposed "underdog" (some of these are such close calls that the underdog wasn't a dog by much) leading. Lots of potential for game sevens.
Every game in the Chicago/Phoenix series has gone to overtime and Chicago showed once again last night how clutch they can be.
We have the dichotomy of great goaltending (Quick, Rinne, Holtby, etc.) versus the insanity of the goals scored in Philly/Pit.
Truly a year where it's felt like any team could have gone (or those remaining can go) to the finals given the right matchups, guys stepping up, and puck luck.
And by the way, congrats to Nashville and St. Louis fans on being the first to advance. And as for Detroit and San Jose fans - I feel ya, bro - might be joining you today.
Just thought there wasn't enough being said at how intriguing and entertaining this first round has been. Cheers, hockey fans.
