How big is Tool exactly?

This Fear Inncocculum song is the modern day Stairway to Heaven. It's in my head with all the violins, "exhale." It almost sounds like a remake of Schizm. That song was legend.

Yet I have to ask why is Tool so popular? Is it tradition? Is it their name? Is it like, "who cares, it's f****** Tool!?"

Does this band have fans that are not general rock fans? I mean that's a dumb question. But people that don't care much for rock but will bend over backwards for the greatest band since Iron Maiden in the hard rock world.

I think they’ve been reading too many of their press clippings. “Let’s see how many different time signatures we can use.” “This song would be better if it’s about ten minutes longer”

I listened to about half of their latest before giving up bored out of my skull. Their fan base will gush about how brilliant it is, but it just seems boring and pretentious to me.
