From Patriots standpoint, We had 10 picks.
Damien Harris and Jake Bailey have been valuable to the team.
The rest are gone or waiting to produce.
1st 3 picks were hopeful but none of them have added value to the team - especially the #1.

I would call that a really bad draft and one that has caused the team to change the way selections are made.

IIRC, it was regarded at the time as a deep WR draft, deep S draft, a trash QB draft, trash Oline draft, and a 'project' Edge draft. I think its mostly panned out that way.

Williams, Bosa, and Murray were the clear top 3 and as such, Q Williams is the most disappointing in the draft.

People wildly underrated some of these WRs, though.

Redraft:

1. Kyler Murray
2. Nick Bosa
3. DK Metcalf
4. Rashan Gary
5. Deebo
6. Brian Burns
7. AJ Brown
8. Terry McLaurin
9. Maxx Crosby
10. TJ Hockinson

Not terrible. Explains why the NFC West has been good lately.

Bills did pretty well in that draft, with 2 starters (Ed Oliver, Devin Singletary), 2 rotational guys (Cody Ford, Tommy Sweeney) and a special teamer/depth safety guy (Jaquan Johnson).

Rams did well too, with Taylor Rapp, Darrell Henderson, David Long, Bobby Evans, Greg Gaines, David Edwards, and Nick Scott all at least rotational players and still on their roster.

Packers did well with their first 3 picks
- 1st round Rashan Gary
- 1st round Darnell Savage
- 2nd round Elton Jenkins
and after that nothing.... Keke was decent mid round pick but then there were some issues (non-performance related) and Packers released him.

On a redraft I would probably have Jenkins at bottom of the list and also find a spot for Devin White. Jenkins can be a left tackle in the league and excel at it... problem in GB he has Bakhtiari there.

I'd argue the Packers have been drafting so well that the other teams in the league have copied and adjusted some of their tendencies. If Rashan Gary busts, I'm not sure Travon Walker goes #1, for example. Packers had to trade up in the draft because WRs probably aren't going to drop like they used to.

We did get Pollard which is the only real bright spot of our 2019 draft. So it seems like this was a good year to trade (for Amari Cooper) your 1st round pick, if you were gonna trade it.

New coaching staff wants his guys, so first thing they do is dump the former coach players. Pretty simple actually.
Jacobs might be breaking down, too. Raiders probably using him up and then trading him in for a younger model

Could be, but only played 3 seasons, only 24 and only carried the ball 217 times vs someone like Jonathon Taylor 332 last season, has played 15 games each of last two seasons. So I'm going with my theory. ;)

....it's more about the 5th year option value.

They would have been well over $8M next season for Jacobs. That's just too much for a RB like Jacobs.

The comparables:
Fornette essentially just signs a 2 year $14M contract this offseason.
Chase Edwards 1 year $6M.
Rashad Penny 1 year $5.75M.

Why guarantee over $8M to Jacobs now when you almost assuredly can have him for that exact amount next year anyways even if he has a good season? No reason to pick it up. He could be a pro bowler and he isn't topping that $8M number in year 1 of his next contract unless he looks like Derrick Henry next year (not happening).

I don't know how to solve the economic issues around RB's......but there is a position that is getting absolutely screwed compared to nearly every other position. And Jacobs not having his option picked up is just as much having to do with that fact than anything.

Fournette is making 8.5 next season, Edwards and Penny really aren't on the same tier (be it injuries or talent) as Jacobs. I'm going with my theory. ;)

His cap hit is $8.5M next year.....but his cap hit this year is $3.7M. But that is kind of what I am talking about. By picking up his 5th year option, you would be giving Jacobs his expensive year but not seeing the benefit of a cheaper year that you can get if you sign him as a UFA next season.

.....or it could be that McDaniels wants "his" guy. But I kind of think that McDaniel has learned about the issues going hard after "his" guys can create and put a lot of undue pressure on him to win right away.....

I dont know why but I was always under the assumption Jacobs was always playing hurt. I had him in Fantasy last year, got him at great value, and was often starting him somewhat reluctantly. I might be projecting a bit.

I do know PFFs commentary on the Raiders is that they run the ball too much and they're better when Carr airs it out. They go out and get the best receiver in football. New coaches. Philosophy change. Out with the old.
