Of the SportsDay 100 top recruits in the Houston area, 53 have signed with out of state schools, and only 24 have signed letters of intent with schools in the state of Texas. Texas A&M leads the in-state Power-5 schools with 5 signees - including 4 in the top 25. Texas, Baylor & Texas Tech have two signees each, while TCU nabbed just one.

SMU leads the in-state Group of 5 teams with 4 signees & another 4 unsigned commitments. North Texas has 4 signees, Rice has two, and Texas St., one. Oddly enough, there are currently no signees or commitments to the University of Houston; but FCS squad Texas Southern has signed one.

In Power-5 schools from bordering states, Oklahoma & Oklahoma St. have 6 signees apiece, with Oklahoma grabbing 4 of the top 10, and the Cowboys snatching 3 of the top 25. Arkansas has 3 signees and LSU, one.

Neighboring G-5 schools with Houston area signees include Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, and Louisiana-Monroe with one signee each.

Those going to P-5 schools farther afield with Texas links through conference affiliation include: Kansas St. (3 signees), Missouri (two signees, 1 commit); Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt & Iowa St. with one signed player each; and South Carolina with one commitment.

Of the G-5 schools with Texas links, UConn has signed two, and Navy has one commitment.

Power-5 schools with no Texas ties that are in the picture include: Illinois, Notre Dame, Stanford, California, Arizona St. & Arizona with two signees each; and Minnesota, Purdue & Utah with one signee each. Other G-5 schools include: San Diego St. & Colorado St. with two apiece; Wyoming & Utah St. with one apiece; and Liberty University with one unsigned commitment.

There are also 15 uncommitted recruits in the SportsDay 100, 11 of which have at least one Texas school among the offerings they are considering.

If you read through the entire text you will find there are a total of 8 unsigned players who have made commitments to various schools.

I think an even bigger issue is how overused and run into the ground the "Houston, we have a problem" cliché has become.

Makes me want to stab my eyes with a rusty butter knife.

Now you know what it feels like when a OU fan has to watch our team play defense on Saturdays.

I would venture Houston is in the top 3-4 cities in the country that is recruited by every school in the country or close to it.

It has several blue chip quality guys every year.

Texas mopped up Houston last year, so I am not sure the point of this. Plus this was down year in the Houston area, compare it to last year. LSU has always done well here, lot of Katrina refugees are in the area. Talk to any Longhorn fan and the concern is the Dallas area.

As long as you aren't mad enough to club a baby seal. Now that would be a problem.

Also is the second largest Alumni base other than Baton Rouge.

HOUSTON (KXAN) — There's one final recruiting battle to be settled in 2019 recruiting between Texas and Texas A&M.

Houston North Forest offensive lineman Javonne Shepherd will decide between the Texas A&M, Texas, Georgia and Alabama next Wednesday on National Signing Day. According to most recruiting experts, Shepherd's expected to ultimately pick between the two Texas schools.

On Wednesday, Shepherd set his commitment time for signing day.

Shepherd commited to Texas this past summer, but has kept his options open visiting Austin and College Station during the 2018 football season.

Shepherd, considered a four-star prospect by most recruiting services, visited Georgia last weekend and previously made official visits to Alabama and Texas A&M.

The Longhorns will get Shepherd's final visit this weekend before he signs with a program.

OU under Stoops, kind of pulled away in the Houston area and only about 3 or so years ago did we, get back in. There's a ex OU football player that does a talk show fill in, in OKC. He coached down in the Houston area and talks about the lack of OU recruiting. A few years ago, he said OU had around 15 Ex OU players coaching in the Houston area and they all complained about OU not recruiting, or even scouting.

I believe the list is made up of mostly 3-star players, and once you get past the top 25 or 30 players the quality drops off pretty sharply. Still, a pretty nice output from one metropolitan area.
