That great Padres prospect group I would hope the Red Sox get 1 of them. A guy like Betts should get a great return. Not Will Myers as the main piece.

According to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, the Reds have reached a multi-year agreement with Nicholas Castellanos.
The deal is pending a physical. Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that it's a four-year deal worth $64 million, which matches the Mike Moustakas deal from earlier this offseason. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the contract includes opt-outs after both 2020 and 2021. It's certainly a great fit for for fantasy purposes, but it's going to be very interesting to see how the playing time shakes out in the Reds' outfield. The club already has Nick Senzel, Jesse Winker, Shogo Akiyama, and Aristides Aquino on the depth chart. Castellanos, 27, batted .289./.357/.525 with 27 homers over 151 games between the Tigers and Cubs last season

That middle number should be .337 but he did have a good year. It still seems like a lot of money if he is going to platoon with Winker. I'm assuming Aquino is penciled in as a starter after he put on that homerun display last year.

Damn. I'm so old I remember when Greensboro was a Yankee affiliate-and named the Bats.
They were the Bats when I was in college, too. Still played at War Memorial (built in honor of WWI) then. That stadium was a dump.

They were the Hornets when I first started school, then switched to the Bats.

I have some great but admittedly blurry memories of that bar that was positioned right behind the LF wall.

Good signing for the Reds with Castellanos, could be a move that makes them a wild card contender in 2020.

He's turned into a good hitter (.286/.334/.504, 120 OPS+ over the last four seasons) but still only comes out at 9.7 fWAR (or 8.0 if you go by BB-Ref) because of his defense. He didn't rate too badly defensively in 2019 though (only -4.4 UZR and -9 DRS!).

absolute joke of a front office/owner
What is even worse the Marlins have 33 million tied up with no intentions of lowering.

The Pirates are at 41 million with all intentions to dump Archer and Polanco.
When the time comes and both are gone they will have a payroll at 25 million which will be less than the top 20 salaries in the league. :L

Yeah, I'm about ready to give up.

Different GM, same shit.

This is about as bad as the Gerrit Cole trade.

ob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Astros are expected to hire Dusty Baker as their next manager.
It's not a done deal yet, as Baker's contract has yet to be finalized, but Astros owner Jim Crane has made his choice. The club interviewed a wide variety of candidates amid the fallout from the sign-stealing scandal which resulted in the firings of A.J. Hinch and Jeff Luhnow, but going with a tested and respected name like Baker makes all kinds of sense in this situation. Baker, who turns 71 in June, is 15th on the all-time list with 1,863 wins as a manager between stops with the Giants, Cubs, Reds, and Nationals. And now he'll take over a team with the talent to make another trip to the World Series.
