We certainly had that one wrong.

Not only did he clear waivers, the Giants did not even want him in the org as a non-40 player.

His numbers were not good this year, sure. But his peripherals were not horrible. His K rate was consistent with his career numbers (approx 8/9IP), but his walks were up.

Did the G's decide that he did not have the goods, or was there some kind of personality issue? :noidea:

I understand risking losing him to gain open a spot on the 40 man, but surprised that they don't bring him back. He has his best year as a pro last year in his 1st season at AA. I know he was getting hit hard this year, (a lot of guys at Fresno have been) but the giants have given pitchers much more time to work on things in the minors. Heston is 25 so not a young prospect, but still plenty young enough to develop into a spot starter/long reliever IMO. It definitely makes me wonder if something else was going on to just drop him completely.

Let me make this clear before I say it...

I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING. THE SOURCE OF THIS IS MY ASSHOLE!

Maybe he is attached to Bio-Genix(sp?)? I think the G's are pretty much as close as you can get to zero-tolerance, so letting go of a B- prospect because of this issue is certainly believable.

Sabean's dumpster diving hits a new high/low. Releases a player who clears waivers, then resigns them.

"Hey, look at this kid Heston. He is still pretty young. Had a very good year in AA last year. Maybe we should pick him up."

He probably sent some scouts out to Fresno to see him pitch. See what the kid has got

This sounds absolutely crazy - I wonder if it was a mis-reporting problem. When DFA'd for the first time, a player doesn't have to be released. He is simply outrighted to the minors. Now, a *second* DFA means that the player has to be in agreement to stay with the team (and be signed).

I think he was DFAd to give him a chance to stick with another team. Several were interested, but not interested enough to put in a claim.

But this would not have required a release. Only a DFA.

I wonder if the release was actually just a technical snafu and Heston agreed to come back.

Good question, I wonder if our read of the DFA rules is correct?
