Players union turns down universal DH
Cause in return the owners want expanded playoffs

Both cases benefit the players as much or more than the owners

Both parties just suck, these guys are the worst

Players association didn't want expanded playoffs?
I thought they wanted more players getting playoff shares?

I would think so too
If the reports are accurate, owners pitched expanded playoffs as a compromise for a universal DH, and it was a dealbreaker

The MLBPA is atrocious. Ashamed that Tony Clark was a Tiger.

Some pitchers can actually hit, but many haven't done so since they were in high school. Nothing scares owners more than having their $25MM/year pitcher trying to swing a bat, getting hurt and going on the DL for a month or so.

Yup, and those pitchers that can hit, batting above .200 is considered damn good, and those are very rare

I would rather see an aging slugger batting .275 with 20+ homers and 70+ RBI rather than see the pitchers flail away and mostly look silly.
On a rather selfish note, this limits the choices that Nelson Cruz has for landing spots. The Twins just need to make him a reasonable offer and he'll be back.

Nothing in the history of sports is less professional than watching a pitcher with a bat in his hands

Not so fast my friend. Pitchers being able to win the MVP, when they already have their own award (Cy Young), is less professional than a pitcher with a bat in his hand.

No, not they can't hit. Look at the numbers. Lets not claim HS when speaking about MLB...

I don’t understand any real baseball fan that wants to watch a pitcher hit when they could he watching a Nelson Cruz or JD Martinez bat instead. ‍

exactly. Why should we see an automatic out 99.99% of the time do to a pitcher not even swinging?
