ok guys...i was assigned a paper where i am supposed to analyze a "community" of which i am a member. i decided, since i spend most of my free time reading nebraska football forums, that i would choose the online community of nebraska fans. if i could get a few of you to respond to this, it would really help me out. there is no need to censor yourself or try to sound more professional than you normally would when posting...this paper is meant to analyze the writing of a particular community and having a variety of different "writing styles" (*cough*popeye*cough*) makes that much easier. if you guys could answer just a few questions i would really appreciate it. i will rep whoever responds...you can either post below or send me a PM.

1. What made you a Nebraska fan?

3. What do you think of the current state of the Nebraska football program? Where do you see the team going?

I moved here in 1969 and was raised here through high school.

2. Why do you post on this message board?

It's free and the rules are lax.

3. What do you think of the current state of the Nebraska football program?
It's improving. One or two years away from being back to Top 10.
Where do you see the team going?
Competing with Michigan (year in and year out) for a spot in the conference championship game.

1. What made you a Nebraska fan?
My family sat me down in front of the TV when I was a baby for every single game. I start to have memories of those games at the age of 4, especially the Colorado match ups as the family would really get riled up for those. Being around that environment growing up, I had no other choice. Couldn't be more thankful for my parents making me the most biased College Football fan in America. Huskers = #1.........always and forever.

2. Why do you post on this message board?
This is the only message board where I can say what I really feel and don't have to worry about getting kicked to the curb. Not to mention, mostly everyone here on the Husker board is cool enough that I wouldn't mind meeting them in real life and talkin' some Husker football. I trust these folks here.

3. What do you think of the current state of the Nebraska football program? Where do you see the team going?
I personally think Bo is feeling pressured, and I think as a result the entire staff and team ratcheted it up a couple notches during this past off-season. Is Bo worried about his job? No, absolutely not. But Bo is a competitive guy and he wants to win Championships just like the rest of us, and he realizes that after 5 years the excuses for not being able to win the big one and not being able to put away all of the little guys start to get old. I think this season may more special than most people expect.

Any comments? Alright. Well, last night I was watching this television show on apes and I couldn't help but wonder how fucking sick it would be to train those apes how to play football together as a team. Bodies would be flying this way and that! Imagine the possibilities.........passes that fly 100 yards in the air.........running backs jumping straight over the line of scrimmage. If you could make a field goal against a bunch of apes jumping on the other side of the ball, I'd have to say that is one hell of a feat right there..........one hell of a feat.

1. I was born and raised in Lincoln NE. Plain and simple. I'm sure if I was born in Norman I'd be a huge Sooner fan, gainesville gator fan etc.

2. I have to "dumb it down" when talking Husker football to basically everyone. Even some of my close friends who are big Husker fans themselves. JJM and I refer to it as "unhealthy". It's a 24/7 365 day obsession. I feel the urge to talk about Husker football literally all of the time and 95% of the time there is someone here who is feeling the same urge. It's only natural for people like us to seek out a "forum" if you will, to express thoughts and opinions that would otherwise bounce around inside our skulls until we're driven insane. I don't pretend that it's normal.

3. Callahan would always talk about "being on the cusp. He was full of shit. Bo speaks similarly about the state of his program, the difference is, it's true. He's been right there. 4 points separate his program from back to back big 12 championships. That's just bad luck. If Nebraska wins ONE of those you get to a BCS bowl and then recruiting REALLY starts rolling.

I just think Bo has done a great job of putting Nebraska in a position to succeed but there have been a lot of unforeseen bad breaks along the way. This is his 5th year as a HC. You can bet he's a heck of a lot better at his job now than he was in 2008 and he was a fantastic coach then. I believe Bo is fully capable of winning here and winning big. If he can just get over the hump (a conference championship and/or at least a BCS bowl game) I think the success of the program will snowball. It will Take on a life of its own.
