Redskins RE Jason Hatcher will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee Thursday and be out 4-6 weeks.
One of the free agency's worst contracts now looks even worse. Hatcher, 32 next month, signed a four-year, $27.5 million deal with the Redskins in March as he came off a career-high 11 sacks (he had 16 in the seven previous seasons combined). The scope is a minor clean-out procedure, but any knee surgery is scary for a player on the wrong side of 30. If the Skins are going to have any prayer of correcting last year's leaky defense, they desperately need Hatcher to be getting after the quarterback in Week 1 and performing at his 2013 level.
