Has there ever been a cover version that completely changed your opinion of a song?

I don't recall it ever happened until I heard this today.

There's been songs that I didn't like, but thought could be good if done by the right artist, but I hated Crystal Gale's original version of this song, and really saw no potential in it. And it's not a not on Crystal, I like a lot of her work.

But then I heard COdy Jinks' version this morning, and I fell in love with it, and really, it made me appreciate the original version more.

    Yall have any similar experiences?

I can’t think of any, but I love a good cover that’s unexpected. Like someone doing a song you wouldn’t expect them to do. The White Stipes doing Jolene comes to mind. I always liked the song, so I couldn’t really say it changed my opinion of it, it’s just a badass cross style version of an already great, classic song.

A decent cover of a Neil Young hit...

That's a nice twist and well done, but it feels a lot like what Brad Mehdlau does but with less talent.

I was never really a big fan of the Led Zeppelin song 'Dancing Days', I didn't hate it, I just felt it was..meh and would usually skip it when it came on.

But, after hearing Stone Temple Pilots cover version of it, I thought their version was much better and began to really like the song. Although I prefer the STP version, I do appreciate the original Zeppelin version much more now.

HBO likes that kind of stuff.

    They used this in Leftovers:

Obviously Jimi Hendrix covering Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" gives the song & story a completely different and more likable feel.

Is it cover if it’s the original artist redoing their song? We need a hoopla consensus on this with all the cover threads...

Anyway, this is really fucking cool.

Bad ass, but I can’t help but notice that the gitfiddler was along for the ride and got the gig in no small part because of his ZZ Top beard.
