I'll shit in your shoes.
Should we do away with the term student athletes and just call them semi-pro players?
Understood, but again, as long as the kids are being paid, what anyone calls them is immaterial.I mean they're still on scholarship
They still go to school
They still have to get the grades to pla
The only difference is they're now remunerated for the money they make for the school
I still don't know why so many people have an issue with this.
But do they really go to school? Wazzu is a small school but football players have maybe 10-2 to be able to attend classes. It’s mostly glorified online school if you’re a football or basketball player.I mean they're still on scholarship

They go to school today as much as they did pre NIL.But do they really go to school? Wazzu is a small school but football players have maybe 10-2 to be able to attend classes. It’s mostly glorified online school if you’re a football or basketball player.
The term student athlete was just a word made up by Walter Byers to avoid having to pay workers comp to injured athletes.Should we do away with the term student athletes and just call them semi-pro players?
You sure? Obviously I don’t attend anymore but from everything I’ve heard it’s not remotely the same. Which makes sense cause back in the day football and basketball games were on the same schedule instead of random days or timesThey go to school today as much as they did pre NIL.
at this point, why not.Should we do away with the term student athletes and just call them semi-pro players?

what gave you that idea?

Cause there is a tight rope colleges and the NFL have to walk. Colleges like the football revenue and the NFL likes the free training. There is nothing stopping these football players from playing pro football they just get more exposure, better training and better pipeline to the NFL instead of the UFL or whatever that league is called now or Canada.Should we do away with the term student athletes and just call them semi-pro players?
You mean besides the CBA between the NFLPA and the NFL, right? The agreement says no athlete may be signed by an NFL team until three school years after high school graduation. The courts upheld that with their Maurice Clarett ruling. Why? Because it was part of the collective bargaining agreement. Would today's courts rule the same way? There is more pro football than the NFL. It’s no different than some HS basketball and baseball players have gone overseas to play professionally until they are eligible to go to the NBA or MLB. A HS player who wants to play pro can apply for a temporary Canadian citizenship and play in the CFL at 18. But of course they won’t cause they want to use college football to get to pros the same as colleges use their football players. You mean besides the CBA between the NFLPA and the NFL, right?
