James "Deebo" Harrison, aka the (ageless) Silverback, is set to make Steelers history as the franchise sack leader when the Steelers take on the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow. At the start of the season James was only 3 sacks away from Jason Gildon's franchise sack record of 77 sacks. James is currently at 76.5 sacks.

So lets all raise a mother-f*ckin glass, or tub, or vat or keg of beer to this man amongst boys...

James, you are the man. Regardless of where you end up in NFL history, whether that be Canton or not, you deserve to be mentioned along with the all-time greats in the NFL. You definitely won't be one of the most liked players outside of Pittsburgh, but dammit you'll be one of the most respected.

Here's to your next sack Deebo... And may you & your legacy forever be cemented in Steelers history.

Steelers release longtime linebacker James Harrison

Really hoping this decision was amicable. I know he wasn't being used and was eating up a valuable roster spot, but he still deserves better than a "shove out the door". It's debatable whether Butler could use him, but simply put TJ Watt is the better player right now. Still would have loved to see Harrison get more closer work.

Deebo just keeps climbing!

Pittsburgh Steelers Career Sack Leaders
1 James Harrison 79.5
2 Jason Gildon 77.0
3 Joey Porter 60.0
4 Keith Willis 59.0
5 LaMarr Woodley 57.0
6 Greg Lloyd 53.5
7 Aaron Smith 44.0
8 Kevin Greene 35.5
9 Lawrence Timmons 35.5
10 Clark Haggans 32.5

Note: Sacks became an official statistic in 1982.
Pittsburgh Steelers Career Sack Leaders
1
James Harrison 80.5
2 Jason Gildon 77.0
3 Joey Porter 60.0
4 Keith Willis 59.0
5 LaMarr Woodley 57.0
6 Greg Lloyd 53.5
7 Aaron Smith 44.0
8 Kevin Greene 35.5
9 Lawrence Timmons 35.5
10 Cameron Heyward 35.0

Damn.. Hadn't realized that Heyward surpassed Haggans and into the top 10 in Steelers history! Obviously this list would be a lot different if sacks were a recorded statistic prior to 1982.

One would think it was mutual and I think the link I read said it was. The bottom line...Harrison was the training wheels for TJ...it turned out he didn't need any training wheels...when I looked at the options for Gilbert's 53rd slot...Deebo was the most disposable so I'm not too surprised.

Limited but still has a few bullets left this yr and I think he wanted to see if anyone in contention would bite...our worst fear would be NE picks him up.

Exactly. That fear would have been enough for me to keep him around. I honestly would have liked to see McCullers get the axe over him. He's been more disposable since the start of the season than anyone.

TJ Watt, sure. But was Moats? No. Was Chickilo? No.

I thought it was going to be McCullers or Harrison...we haven't seen it much but McCullers is still on goal line sub pkg...nothing else to my knowledge.
