Not that it matters

Dodgers (4)
@ Oakland (2)
@ Padres (3)
Pirates (3)
Snakes (4)
@ Rockies (3)
@ Tiggers (2)
@ Twinkies (3)
Padres (3)

27 games

The Giants are already 0-2

I will take 13-14 which would be a good month the way they have been playing

11-16

wanted 12-15, but actually kinda happy to see it was taken so I could have the excuse (with none of you the wiser, of course) to take the more pessimistic record of 11-16.

Well if they continue as they have lately maybe the Giants get high draft picks and we take the obvious guys who meet or exceed expectations. Well a Fan can Hope for the silver lining. :)

unless you have the #1 pick, draft position in MLB means almost nothing. Bart was a #2 overall, and now from we know about him now, he looks like a nice starting catcher, but not a needle mover. Webb was a 4th rounder. Timmeh was #10. Bum was #10. Posey was #5.

But the Giants have gotten more luck from their later rounds, seemingly. With those pick, draft position REALLY doesn’t make a difference.

We just need to be in the lotto for a shot at the 1st pick, correct? However, I think the month of April will screw us over on that opportunity.

Good point. But even the top pick in baseball is enough of a crapshoot that “tanking” isn’t worth it.

“Winning the draft” is the same thing as “winning the off season”.

You do have to have a good scouting department to land a Carlos Correa, Bryce Harper or Gerrit Cole (and luck into good year to get a number 1 pick).

Correa, yeah. He was a shock to everyone when he was picked, iirc. But not with Harper. He was WIDELY known going into the draft. I think typically, most of the top 10 guys or so are pretty well known, widely. But you do need the scouting ability to find the flaws and extrapolate them at that level.

Bart was the #2 of what looked like a weak draft. But Jonathan India was picked #5. Jeremy Peña was taken in the 3rd round. Steven Kwan was taken in the 5th. Skubel in the 9th.

Everything else being the same, I would rather have the 5th pick than the 15th pick, but I would rather have the 15th pick and the season that produced said 15th pick than the 5th pick and the season that produced said 5th pick. The long term difference between the 5th position and the 15th position just isn’t that much in baseball.

I’m not looking too good now. They have to play above .500 ball the rest of the month.
