Depends on the story I guess. You can be a real bastard in RDR2, but I still finished that playthrough with the highest honor.

Yeah, the "honor" system has always been fairly easy to manipulate in these games. I'd imagine you have to go on constant killing sprees to get "locked out" of the top honor. And even then it probably only effects achievements.

Based on what? Red Dead 2 was fantastic and the online mode was robust and GTA5 was so massive it was on Top Ten sales lists years after it came out.

And there's nothing more tired than virgin gamers whining about female main characters and calling it "woke." No stupider cliche in gaming. You see all this whining before the game comes out and then it doesn't effect sales at all since the people whining weren't even fans in the first place. We just saw this same pathetic outcry before The Odyssey and it was all hot air. No one's buying the fake tough-guy act, especially since it's basically males being afraid of seeing women in a game.

I dont even think we started seeing diversity in video games in any meaningful level until around 2017.

That said, there is no evidence that Rockstar has lost their edge. Although once writers leave generally most IPs dip in quality so we'll see but GTA6 has had so much time and money put into it that its basically 50/50 for being the game of the decade before even releasing.

For example, Assassin Creed games now have enemy female soldiers in recent titles even if it's not historically accurate...which means I'm killing women in droves in these games. I was getting ready to quote Shark but I'll throw my thoughts here in that I think gamers 'grow up' with certain IPs and those IPs run their course. Whoever grew up with Vice City or San Andreas probably liked GTAIV and then GTAV seemed like a bit of a mid life crisis and the two cowboy games and noir game obviously appear to older men. So you have this curve where this IP is 'yours' except that its not. So the IP has to start catering to new audiences when the people who grew up on GTA leave the 18-35 demographic.

The 'woke' thing has layers to it but I think the most humorous part is that the women inserted into action games are just the same as men like you say. There isnt actually a female gender added. Little femininity. Its women in violent male roles. How that became a strictly right wing thing is interesting. You do have games like Control, Gravity Rush 2 etc where the focus is more on magical manipulation. Jean Gray. Its the 'girl boss' that triggers people online on top of companies like Sweet Baby just coming in and making sure all of the themes are appropriate. I'm all for more girls in games but I think when people see girls in GTA, which is traditionally a very masculine space, it does make you wonder if the art will hold up at all. But maybe the woke stuff is just men holding 'gun and ball' games to a standard they never had before to begin with.

I do think representation matters more in story-based video games than other forms of entertainment because you're literally POV with that character for hours on end. Having violent story-based games with women when the audience is mostly men is just weird.

I guess you have instances of Bonnie/Clyde etc. Although it was largely Clyde organizing things/killing and Bonnie was literally along for the ride. She was still an accomplice to the crime, but she was not shooting guns and killing like the movies or the way pop culture portrays it. That's not aside the fact that women killers do exist, but it's fairly rare.. and him being portrayed in some of the trailers as a cuck boy (asking what she's going to wear, REALLY!?) while she appears to be making the decisions, is just kind of... EH, not really realistic to the kind of men in organized crime, lol.

And sitting here saying, "That's such a conservative, misogynistic, sexist take!" Whatever you want to call it, I don't care. When they take IP created for men, and then try and switch it to incorporate the feminist agenda or put girl bosses in, the IP largely suffers as women really don't want it anyway (since the core is for men) despite what they say - and the men don't identify with it. This has happened with NUMEROUS IPs - not just GTA lol.

Strong female characters are not riding around in cars and blasting shotguns out the window with a one armed pump, LOL give me a break. That doesn't mean all women are weak. Ripley in Aliens and even Sarah Connor in Terminator (driven by the goal to protect/nurture loved ones) worked PERFECTLY.

I posted more on this here GTA 6 - which I suggest you read, because it addresses where female characters in games are written to be very unrealistic/unbelievable in a world that is not fantasy/magic. NOBODY has issues with OP female characters in fantasy games btw.

But yah, RDR2 and GTA5 were made in a completely different era (crazy what 10 or so years can do) and by a completely different team. Virgin gamers? Where are you getting being annoyed at girl bosses in video games (which is generally very unrealistic in organized crime) complete with their soy boy cuck, translating to a virgin? The hell are you talking about?

GTA6 will top sales charts regardless of whether it's amazing or garbage, because of it's predecessors - although if it's not good, it will affect future sales (see Star Wars lol). Same reason Diablo 3 which was widely regarded as underwhelming sold great - because it rode on Blizzard's previous success. So you saying sales have anything to do with a negative reaction, is ridiculous. That said, despite a story/whatever - I still argue the MOST important thing in ANY video game is the ability to f'in play it. If the game PLAYS well, most people can ignore the story/graphics, etc.

You're making this out to be something far greater than I am and are the one that is coming off toxic (OOOOH, TOXIC there's that word again) lol. Letty was definitely a tough chica but Dom ran the show, same with Brian... Letty punched Lance and that was about it.

Letty was a believable character and while Dom did respect and love her, he still ran the show and Letty followed - exactly like that would happen in real life. That's why it was good, it was believable, and women picked up on that too. Real women don't want a guy asking what dress they're going to wear and following their lead, either lol.
