Rob Gronkowski took a cheap shot by Safety Earl Thomas Last night that knockjed him out of the game for 5 plays. Gronk said that hit was the hardest he's ever taken and it knocked the air out of him. The reason was that he suffered a punctured lung. He will miss this week's game and possibly two games.

NFL is under pressure to look more closely at hits on unprotected receivers and take much harder stances on penalties including suspensions when players are seriously hurt.

One MD has already said that a hit like Gronk took could kill a human. Anyone old enough to remember Daryll Stingley? Patriots wide receiver who was paralyzed from a cheap hit by an Oakland Safdety who never apologized or ever spoke to Stingley after that game?

It was a blind shot to the chest after the ball had been out of play. On replay Thomas actually turned his head and dropped his shoulder. Gronk was totally defenseless. If he wasn't, he would have been able to raise his arms to protect himself.

I coached for 44 years and have repeatedly told my players that you never hit anyone after a play is over.

Especially the assholes who take the cheap shots in the end zone after a TD is scored.

Last year Zach Zenner got some busted up ribs and a collapsed lung in mid October. He went on IR and missed the rest of the season.

Couldn't tell you the difference between a collapsed lung and punctured lung timetable wise though.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Rob Gronkowski does not have a punctured lung, as it's only a "not overly serious" chest injury.



NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported earlier Monday that Gronkowski suffered a punctured lung in the Sunday night loss to the Seahawks as a result of an Earl Thomas hit. Who knows what to believe, but nobody has reported a punctured lung except for Rapoport. Consider Gronkowski day to day

Not an illegal hit. ET saw a opening and he took his shot. The ball was clearly dropped/missed by the time he delivered the blow. ET could've pulled off if he wanted to?
