I'll be honest, I thought he retired years ago. Iginla excluded, is he the best black player of all time?

Nope.

Grant Fuhr
Tony McKegney
Anson Carter

are at least three that were better.

He might actually be after a quick glance at this perhaps poorly-titled list.

I always liked Mike Grier. He was one of the fire sale guys in DC I was sad to see go.

Athletes that defy racial stereotypes are always kind of cool to me. The Mike Griers, Shauni Davis, and Jason Seahorns of this world.

I gotta give you Fuhr, but I liked Grier better than Carter.

I guess it depends on whether you wanted longevity or offensive production.

Anson Carter was far from a floater and while not as physical as Grier he was in the same ballpark defensively. He once scored 60 points pre-lockout and led his team in scoring. He had at least half a dozen seasons as a top 6 forward.

Grier was your prototypical grinder. Never was an offensive dynamo but plugged away on the 3rd or 4th line perfectly, wearing down opposing d-men.

It comes down to what you want in a player and I'd take either on my team, but I just feel that producing points is the most important thing a player can do in the modern NHL.
