Great promise, but shouldn't there be caution?

One year ago, talk of riding the defense while the offense came along was rampant. There were assumptions made that didn't pan out.

Now, with coaching changes everywhere and perhaps a generational talent added to this defense, the same optimistic talk has returned.
Having learned from a year ago, shouldn't there be more caution in planning for a defensive resurrection?
