I was reading an article about how approximately 13% of drafted NFL kickers have panned out over the years. For some reason, most that excel in college? They just don't in the NFL. I have no idea why. Perhaps the wider hashes play a role?

Anyway, I realize that Parkey is likely gone (judging by Pace/Nagy's presser) and we bring in a vet who will be the favorite to beat out Jones. I don't think that he should be dismissed as a camp body, though.

Robbie Gould was a nobody out of Penn State, working construction in 05 with a future place kicking in football looking more than just dicey. We fired Doug Brien mid-season, replaced him with Gould and the rest is history. He became one of the top few kickers ever to do it from an efficiency standpoint.

Let's compare the numbers between these two guys.

Gould at Penn State: 39 for 61 (63.9%) on FG's - 115 for 121 on PAT's (95%)

Jones at Tulsa: 50 for 67 (74.6%) on FG's - 169 for 172 on PAT's (98.3%)

A little work with Jones and pulling those hashes closer to the middle? I don't think it's anywhere near out of the realm to say that the kid has hope for a good career. No?

With the percentage difference,Jones looks to the one I'd take just by looking at it,not to mention at a cheaper price....

My only question would be,how many of the fgs were 45 and beyond, coompared to what Robbie kicked.....

That is an interesting spin on the college stats. Good info.

At this point, I don't trust ANY kicker.
Parkey, as a free agent coming into 2018 had one of the better FG% of the kickers available.
That didn't turn out well.

I'll be skeptical of any kicker they bring in.
Maybe if they make it through the first 8 games without too many misses will I start to feel comfortable about it.

i think the balls kicked in the NFL are different than the ones kicked in college. I believe I’ve heard the college balls are harder to kick.

I would think the wider hash marks would make it more difficult to kick??

Fuckers should just be outlawed. Losing a game due to a kicker is like kissing your sister.

Stunning that Parkey has been statistically more accurate than Greg the Leg.

The difference is Greg made his kicks when they mattered most :gaah:

I have not watched college football in many a years...……..Last I can say is that I seen Matt Suhey with Penn State...……..:L

With very a rare min in between then and now...…..

But if I remember right, were the balls bigger than the pros...……..?
