I would be interested to hear what those of you in Dallas feel about him. I of course didn't read him every day and never read anything he wrote that wasn't about the Cowboys, but I liked Goose. When others were predicting Super Bowls and playoff advancement he was reminding us our pass defense couldn't stop anyone and of course he was right. When most touted every draft pick as a day one starter and impact player he reminded us how unlikely that was. Admittedly sometimes he and some of these writers that have been around for a long time seemed to criticize just to criticize, but I guess that's the business today.

Goose! Rick Gosselin covered everything for The News. Here's his swan song...

Good and insightful but this town had Blackie and Lutska which were both hard to top

I don't think I have heard of Lutska. Recent or years back?

Sorry...I didn't spell his name correctly. Frank Luksa was years back.

Dallas had some great ones back then.
Blackie Sherrod & Steve Perkins, Dallas Times Herald
Bob St. John & Walter Robertson, Dallas Morning News
Frank Luksa, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Another old school guy was Sam Blair. Blair wrote a book titled Dallas Cowboys Pro or Con? This book was written in 1969 after the Boys had lost twice to the Packers in the NFC Championship game and two times (68/69 to the Cleveland Browns when they were favored to win the NFC. I was a heart broken kid back then and the book killed me cause it spoke the truth for those times. The last sentence was the story back then...

" There's No Heavier Burden Than Great Potential"

Meredith retired after the 69 season. Morton took the team to the 70 SB cause we had a great defense and proceeded to lay an egg against the Colts. In 71 after a 4-3 start, Landry turned to Staubach and everything worked out nicely from there

also of note back in those days. Dan Reeves became the youngest coach in NFL history in 69 when Landry made him the runningback coach. He was 26 years old

I mowed yards for $2 in the summer and payed $6 a game to sit in the Cotton Bowl to watch my team.
I remember half the fans chanting we want Morton while the other half chanted we want Meredith. It was no wonder Dandy Don retied after just 8 seasons. Dallas fans were tough on QB's back in those days. Might be why I always looked at Romo a little differently than most fans. It was always about playoff advancement and still kinda is for me.

Blackie and Luska were some of the best
Goose was one of the best draft day analysts period he was just a shoot straight no candy coating type guy. I will miss his articles and have missed his draft day stuff since the Morning News took him off it pretty dumb to move the best guy in the nation but maybe he wanted off the treadmill.
Enjoy your retirement Goose you have earned it.:suds:

Couldn’t have summed up my perspective of Goose any better. Always felt I could learn something from his articles and insights. Often did.
