It was an unfortunate loss but ultimate the team doesn't have enough horses. This off season should help address that as the team will have a ton of cap space.

I think most of that cap space will be locked up in a few key players and with only 4 draft picks it could be a tough off season.

We have 60 million in cap space as it stands. The only big contract we will need to do is Clark.

IMO, I could see them keep KJ and extend Bobby. Can't imagine Earl coming back but I would love it if he did.

Hard to imagine we won't have 20-30 million in cap space to bring in a couple of key players. We must get more help at receiver and OL. Another run stuffer as well.

The key to a successful offseason will be waiting out free agency and hitting on a couple of key pieces at a reasonable rate; ala Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril. Pete has a system that allows underachievers to prosper in Seattle while being average somewhere else.

I like what I see at safety so bringing Earl back at his price doesn’t seem necessary, but I think we may need to consider dropping Shaquille on the depth chart and prioritize a shut down corner. Tre Flowers was pleasant surprise but Shaq is showing to be a liability. Kris Richard knew that from coaching him last year and attacked him constantly yesterday, he was a big reason for the loss. We need an upgrade.

It was a very encouraging season. Most of the negative expectations on what this team would be were reinforced after an 0-2 start, and all they did from there was build the league's best ground attack and win 10 of the next 14. Lots of reasons to be excited about what is in store next year.

My 3 biggest hopes for the off-season:

1) Re-sign Frank Clark.

2) Bring back KJ Wright.

3) A light enough sentence on Kendricks that we can have him in the fold for '19.

Go Hawks!!

Reed’s extension will also be a big contract as he goes into the last year of his Contract, possible Russell Wilson extension

On top of that KJ Wright, Sweeny, Fluker, Kendrick’s, Dion Jordan, Shamar Stephen are all unrestricted free agents. 60 mil is going to become a smaller number very quickly

None of those guys are big ticket players.

Except maybe Thomas but we won't spend big money on him.

My thoughts:
Frank Clark, DE- Top priority to resign. Not sure if they have a back up plan if they lose him. 100% necessary.
K.J. Wright, OLB- Would love to have him back but he is getting older and injuries have been a factor. Depth at LB was poor. 70% necessary depending on Kendricks' status.
Earl Thomas, FS- Gone. Thanks for the ride Earl. Didn't need the middle finger though. 0% chance.
Justin Coleman, CB- Has played well enough, but could garner some interest around the league because of that. Depends on price. 60%
Shamar Stephen, DT- Eh. Not sure at all. Depth guy.
Dion Jordan, DE- Has all the tools but injured a bit and a tendency to disappear. Depends on price. 60%
Sebastian Janikowski, K- Gone. 0%
D.J. Fluker, G- #2 priority. Need his road grading capabilities. 80% necessary
J.R. Sweezy, G- Would like him back but only if price is right. 50%
Mike Davis, RB- Loved his effort. But will he happy as a #3 back with #3 money. 40%?
Neiko Thorpe, ST- Not sure. Special Teams in general was horrible. Either he is a key guy who could help or he is a weak specialist. 40%?
Mychal Kendricks, OLB- All depends on the sentencing. If he is available then we need him, especially if K.J. is gone. 80% under those specific circumstances.
Maurice Alexander, S- Decent backup. 75% if on a back up salary.
Brett Hundley, QB- Haven't seen him much but they went out of their way to get him, so.....50%?

We have close to the fewest number of players under contract for next season. If we get any decent names in FA it will be because their market cratered and they took prove-it deals (a la Avril and Bennett in 2013).

  • Frank Clark, DE - MUST keep. Re-sign or tag to buy time to re-sign
  • K.J. Wright, OLB - Only if he'll take low guarantees. Love KJ, but the injury issue scares me, especially with him being on the wrong side of 30.
  • Earl Thomas, FS - He's gone.
  • Justin Coleman, CB - Slot CB is essentially a starting position. With the team having only 4 draft picks I want him back.
  • Shamar Stephen, DT - No
  • Dion Jordan, DE - If he'll sign a vet minimum contract to compete in camp, okay
  • Sebastian Janikowski, K - No
  • D.J. Fluker, G - If his market craters I'll take him back. If someone's willing to pay him, let him go and roll with Simmons
  • J.R. Sweezy, G - If the price is cheap
  • Mike Davis, RB - For his sake, I hope someone pays him more than the vet min and that someone is not us
  • Neiko Thorpe, ST - I'd prefer not, but anticipate they will re-sign him
  • Mychal Kendricks, OLB - I'm interested pending the jail thing
  • Maurice Alexander, S - No
  • Brett Hundley, QB - Not worth the money it will take. Draft a backup.

But we don't have many big ticket positions we need to spend a ton of money on.

We have 34 players signed. So we need to sign about 20 players. But we only have a few starters that need to be resigned. Clark/Wright/Coleman are the only specific priorities. Then you have guys like Sweezy and Fluker who need to be either resigned or replaced. And a decision needs to be made on Ifedi.

Clark is going to be expensive for sure. I could see him eating up 25% of our available cap space. Wright should be manageable and will Coleman. Some of those open slots will be filled with draft picks, UDFAs and bargain bin acquisitions.

Which should leave us 20-25 million in money to make moves with in FA which is more than we've had since the Super Bowl run started.

I honestly would like to see us make an improvement on LG, RG and RT. I can live with not upgrading all of those positions but we are clearly in need of better players at those positions.

Definitely agree with the crowd who is calling for Reed getting extended. He had to have graded out as a top 5 DT this year. I believe he ended up with as many sacks as Lawrence from Dallas, who someone in here early in the season was saying was on par with Von Miller & Khalil Mack. I think I heard that Frank Clark & Jarran Reed were the only DL teammates who each registered double digit sacks this year. Could be a very effective duo to build around up front on D.

I'm not 100% certain what the exact number was last off-season, but I'm confident it was nowhere near as much as what we have to work with now. And last off-season, we had WAY more significant holes to fill with the loss/departure of Michael Bennett, Sheldon Richardson, Cliff Avril, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Jimmy Graham, Paul Richardson, Luke W, and maybe some more guys I'm forgetting. And we still managed to sign Sweezy, Fluker, McDougald, Kendricks, Dickson, Mingo, extend Lockett, extend Duane Brown, and some other moves that I'm probably forgetting. I think we will be just fine with this huge number to work with this go 'round.

I would not brank the bank for any of our offensive linemen they were cut from their previous team because they were not good and signed to a minimum. They had good seasons for us but its not like Fluker or Sweezy made the pro bowl. If they want to continue their careers in the NFL they should look for a reasonable deal to stay in Seattle. Sweezy already knows that the grass isn't always greener when he left to Tampa and came back and fluker being cut twice from the chargers and giants both should know that this situation here on this team is better for them than trying to leave and seek money.
