Trying to unload Payne. What are your thoughts on this trade?

Bengals Receive: DT Daron Payne, 2026 sixth-round pick (No. 197) From 49'ers for BRob.
Commanders Receive: 2026 second-round pick (No. 41)
The Bengals defense has been a calamity the last two seasons. There are a lot of reasons for it, but a lack of talent on the interior has been a driving force in both instances.
That would end if the Bengals got aggressive in pursuit of DT Daron Payne.
The 6'3", 320-pound nose tackle is recognized for his elite strength, hand quickness and high motor.
He's the force multiplier in the middle of the defense that could change the Bengals front. This would be a similar package to what Seattle gave the Giants to get Leonard Williams.
Works for me. Then maybe turn that trade into Lee Hunter.

Sounds like he is a run stuffer. Would be a nice plug in the middle of a 3-4
*Texas Tech defensive tackle Lee Hunter is widely projected as a late first-round to second-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, frequently mocked in the 25–40 overall range. Known for his run-stuffing ability and interior pass rush.

I'm thinking the Bengals would have to extend him to make it happen. Not sure how that would fit given their circumstances with Burrow, Chase & Higgins.

I wonder what we could get for Mikey? AI says late first to early second. I would give him up for that and get Lee Hunter.

That will get included in my draft offseason thread.
They have to find a way to move MS back to slot. A bit small on the outside for me but must find a fit in Daronte Jones' defense. If what Jones says is true and his defense is all about take aways, that's Mikey's forte!

Mikey was atrocious in the slot.

There goes Pitts! The Falcons placed the franchise tag on him so we might have to try and get Likely

Update based on Pitts being tagged. Plus Wylie extension.

We sit at 68 million in cap space. The cuts I made in my first piece get us up to 117.5 million. Rookies will take 8 million, leaving 110 million in cap space. The following signings will cost 77 million, leaving us with 40.5 million.

Tress Way- guessing 3 mil. I would not have done it but somebody already did so oh well.

Treylon Burks (WR)- Market value on Spotrac is 3.5 million. I offer him 3 years, 20 million, with a 5 mil signing bonus and year one guaranteed at 3 million. 3/5/7

Trey Lance (QB)- 1.5 million. He is a very low risk signing. He sucks, make no mistake about that but he is cheap, young, and athletic.

Tyquan Thornton (WR)- I can’t remember the game but he was always open and Mahomes missed him 3 times for TDs. I sign him for two years, 8 million, 2 million signing bonus with 2 million in year 2 and 4 million in year 2.

Isaiah Likely (TE)- 4 years, 40 million, 15 mil signing bonus, first year guaranteed, broken down 5/7/10/13

Thayer Mumford (T)- 2 years, 3 million, no guarantees

Jake Moody (K)- 1.5 mil

Naquan Jones (DT)- 1.5 mil, one year

Klavon Chaisson (Edge)- 3 years, 30 million with 10 mil signing bonus and year 1 guaranteed. 5/5/10

Drake Jackson (Edge)- 2 years, 5 million with 1 mil signing bonus and year 1 guaranteed. 1/3

DevinLloyd (LB)- 3 years, 60 million, 20 million signing bonus and first year guaranteed. 10/15/15

Tariq Woolen (CB)- 3 years, 36 million with 15 mil signing bonus and first year guaranteed. 5/ 7/9

Noah Igbinoghene (CB)- 2 years, 6 million with 1 mil signing bonus. 2/3

Nick Cross (S)- 4 years, 36 mil with 10 mil signing bonus and first two years guaranteed. 5/5/7/9

Andrew Wylie(T/G)- 2 years, 7.5 mil, 1.5 mil signing bonus

I think Trey Lance will resign with the Chargers? Why would he leave LA and that great weather to be a backup at a not so good weather here?

With the Biadasz cut saving nearly 3 million, His replacement will be Sean Rhyan.

We sit at 68 million in cap space. The cuts I made in my first piece get us up to 117.5 million. Rookies will take 8 million, leaving 110 million in cap space. The following signings will cost 81 million, and after Pitts changed to Likely, Biadasz replaced by Rhyan, and Wylie resigning, leaving us with 39.5 million.

That is my hope co e draft time. That is why I kept 50 million also for after draft signees, draft picks, and future cap.

There are a lot of ways this could go in the draft. We could get Downs in the first or if he is gone get a pass rusher. Maybe we trade down a couple of times and get Lee Hunter in the late first (he has become my man crush) but we do not have a second so we have to trade down to get him. There are quite a few good safety prospects so that would be an option but getting a Downs may be too good to pass up…just not sure.
Revisiting this given the Downs news. Perhaps we could trade back a few spots and still get downs while getting your man crush Hunter?
