No other rookie has had the year he has had, all while missing the first 4 weeks.
Derek Carr and Teddy Bridgewater both have their name in the hat as well. Bridgewater has a winning record as a starter and has 4 of his wins as 4th quarter comebacks. Derek Carr has shown a lot already turning the Raiders into a competitive team all while starting every game this year.
Here's what is confusing about NFL awards. The MVP award is specifically an award for quarterbacks and occasionally a RB but the ROY can be given out to pretty much anyone.
That's because quarterbacks are by far more valuable than any other position on the field. MVP is not an award for the most outstanding player, but ROY essentially goes to the most outstanding rookie.
With that catch in the Dallas game, he's likely a winner.
He could be accused of a quadruple homicide in the next week but I think that's about it.
