In the past, we've done some random trivia questions to entertain us during the offseason, so I thought I'd try to bring it back this offseason.

So here is the first question:

Without looking (other then viewing the list of players picked that year by the Giants), name the 3 players the Giants drafted and signed in 2008 who played professional baseball in 2022. The clue is that the first one is obvious, the second one isn't too hard but the third one is the hard one to figure out.

I am looking at the list:

and I confess I only know for sure about the "obvious" one. But I don't follow things as closely as some of you hardcore types (but God bless you for that).

I'm guessing the key phrase is "who played professional baseball in 2022", as in, not necessarily MLB.

Yes, you are correct. I was looking at this draft class and was surprised to see two guys, besides the "obvious one" has played in 2022. Professional baseball could be any league that gets listed at BBRef. This includes indy leagues and overseas leagues.

FYI…

that link, if you look, has the answer.

As for the question…

I knew the “obvious” one before looking at the draft class.
The second one I was surprised about. I had no idea he was still playing.
The third, I kinda remember him when he was one of our prospects, but I never would have figure he was still playing somewhere. I would guess it is some kind of glorified beer league somewhere.

Mmmmm, as far as I can tell, that site only documents MLB experience, not any international. But perhaps I didn't exhaust the possibilities. At a minimum, it provides the leads.

Here is a screenshot, with the “spoiler” data highlighted…

Ah, my screen cut off the critical data, so I thought I had a WYSIWYG situation. Very good.
I had figured out the answers without this anyway. I had put a clue to that in an earlier post.

Well, so much for that. Anyone want to give an official answer?

And anyone want to try a new trivia question?

What opposing pitcher lost the first game the Giants played in SF?

Still and all, a good question. Thanks for putting the effort into that.
The fact that Vladimir Frias, even if most of it is indy ball, is still playing is intriguing to me. There are a few other late round picks from around that time that are still hanging on in indy ball.

Don Drysdale?
That is correct. I thought it notable that our first win in SF hung a loss on our arch-rivals star pitcher - presumably their best one at the time. 1958 predated Koufax's super years.
