You know you love the low risk-low reward minor league offers/signings (especially when they become average to above average rewards, ie. Mota).

I do. Even when they wash out like DTrain.

How about JD Martin for 6th starter/pen depth? Recently released by the Nats, could come as a non-roster invitee to ST.

Absolutely. Where is the risk? I don't recall ever seeing this guy pitch, but at 6'4" 200 lbs. with a slightly above league average ERA and WHIP, I don't see the harm. If he can't compete, no love lost. If he can help out the already dominant pen or spot start, then awesome. You seem to know more about him. What's his story, best?

I like the idea of giving Martin a minor league deal, but I suspect somebody will give him an opportunity to compete for a rotation spot out of ST. In other news: only Torres left to sign as Lopez came to terms today.

To quote Almost Famous, "It's all happening."

I like that he doesn't walk many guys, he pounds the zone but still gets a decent amount of K's (7.5 K's/9 in minor leagues) and keeps the ball in the yard (62 HRs given up in 785 innings). He doesn't overwhelm you with a big fastball or nasty secondary stuff, but he knows how to pitch.

He was drafted in the 1st round in 2001 and is still only 28. I could see him wanting to compete for a job somewhere else though as tzill said because any pitcher with a brain understands that unless there is an injury, no one is going to crack this rotation, but he'd be a great fit.

The Giants are apparently on the verge of signing Suppan, and someone else brought up the idea of Galaragga.

I like the idea of Galaragga. We could probably get him from Detroit for just about any non-40 guy (Bond, Pill, Bierry, Monell, Maday). The problem arises in that then WE would have to DFA someone to put him on OUR 40-man...

Would he have to be on our 25 man roster? If so, who is out in the pen?

I'm not sure we have a spare $2.3MM lying around for a minor league pitcher.

Good point. He probably would have to be.

I guess we need to wait until he clears waivers then make a play at him, assuming he makes it that far...

Does Kyle Kendrick have minor league options?

He'd be similar to Galaraga in that we'd have to spend money that we may not have, but we could get him for basically nothing as the Phillies are looking to shed salary.
