Supposedly Miami is listening to offers for him. It got me thinking what it would take to get him to Pittsburgh. I absolutely do not believe we will trade for him, but I also believe that if Miami would take our offer there is not much I wouldn't do to get him. I would limit it to one of the big three pitchers but anyone else would be on the table. I would probably go with an offer of:

Taillon
Hanson
Kingham
McPherson

Interesting thought..... but I think Miami would hang up unless the offer started with Cole.

However, like you, I believe that such a trade absolutely will not happen. Huntington's job depends upon the farm system starting to provide a steady stream of good talent to the major league team..... so I don't see him taking a big chunk out of the minor league system, even for a player like Stanton.

I actually saw a suggested deal between the Pirates and Marlins. This was notable because it was a national author (David Schoenfield) who is not a Pirates fan or a Miami fan. A third party in other words.

He suggested that appropriate value from us would be Cole and Taillon and Hanson. He thought Miami would turn their nose up at the offer.

Don't think Giancarlo Stanton is in our future. Well maybe when he's 39 years old.

From MLB Prospect Watch

Pittsburgh Pirates - I actually believe that the Pirates would be a great fit for Stanton if only they were willing to make a true commitment to being a competitive team. They're taking the right steps, but trading for Stanton could speed up their timetable by a year so and give them the best young outfield in the game (with Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte filling out the rest). They could extend Stanton without even bringing their payroll up to the middle of the pack in the majors, and they have plenty of pitching prospects to get a deal done. In fact, they could probably use Jameson Taillon as the centerpiece of a deal, along with a number of other pieces, and not have to touch top prospect Gerrit Cole. Everything points to the Pirates being a viable and even likely landing spot for Stanton until we remember that they're the Pirates. I'd be shocked if they pull the trigger on a deal of this magnitude, no matter how much sense it makes.

The Pirates are essentially in the same situation as the Padres and I don't see them trading prospects anytime soon, only trading for prospects. And if you got him, where's his protection in the batting order? And where do you bat him?

I agree with you that they will not get him but i think McCutchen in front of him and Alvarez behind him gives him plenty of protection

Protection isn't real, bat him 3rd or 4th, does that really matter?

I don't see this as being even slightly credible but it would be pretty awesome to have him.
Since we're in fantasy-land I'll pretend that we drafted Matt Weiters too.
1. Marte CF
2. McCutchen LF
3. Walker 2B
4. Stanton RF
5. Alvarez 3B
6. Weiters C
7. Jones/Sanchez 1B
8. Barmes SS

Sounds good. Let's go back in time and re-do that draft.

Some day we are all going to wake up and Ashton Kucher is going to have done his biggest punk'ed episode ever to Pirate fans.

The Marlins aren't going to trade him, they have zero reason to. The return they get now won't be any better than the return they get in a year, or two years assuming he doesn't get hurt/regress.

Here's A 29-Team Roundup Of Fans' Dumbest Giancarlo Stanton Trade Proposals

Those are some funny ones!

I love the Orioles where that person likes their OF enough that they don't need Stanton!

Heck even the Padres, old OF's for Stanton.

Seriously the only way the Marlins would listen is if Cole was involved and that won't happen.
