Yikes. That's brutal.

Hopefully he comes out of it.

Couldn't stand him on the track, but that's a terrible thing to happen while doing something you love. Get better soon Schumi.

Still in a medically induced coma and he was wearing a helmet.

Schumacher and his 14-year-old son were skiing in the French Alpine resort of Meribel, where the family has a chalet, when he fell and hit the right side of his head on a rock. He was taken first to a local hospital, then to Grenoble University Hospital, which is recognized as having one of France's best neurology teams.

Small improvement for Schumacher after second surgery

Schumacher life is "out of danger";next days will be "progressively woken up" as from detailed article on LaStampa

According to La Stampa article, it's no more an issue 'if' Schumacher will wake up. Now the main issue is in which conditions he will be

Wow - good for him!

Such a freak accident since he had on a helmet and wasn't even skiing fast. Stories like that make me a little freaked out to go skiing (which is probably a good thing to have in the back of your mind while skiing).

That must be a messed up moment to wake up in a hospital and be told you were out for a month.

If that ever happens to me, I want my friends/family to take pictures of me at different places in my stretcher with everyone in increasingly weirder outfits and when I wake up, they should tell me I've been out for 47 years and we found a cure to stop aging and disease. An alien doctor who brought the cures to Earth from another galaxy would be a nice touch as well.

still might be .. italian story i read was that they were lessening the anaesthesia and he was experiencing movement ... they have no clue about full cognitive function yet

Yeah, that's the big question now. After the fall he was alert and coherent, but once swelling set in he deteriorated quickly.

Still pretty amazing that they stabilized him to the point where they are going to start waking him up soon.

^^^^

I understand that the coma was purposefully induced for sound medical reasons: I'm just pointing out that this one particular doctor seems to have serious concerns about how slowly the 'reviving' process is going - or if it's even working at all.

I was referring to the fact that writer called it a fatal accident. That's a pretty big detail to get wrong.

I know it doesn't look good, and kind of knew it when they said they'd start waking him up and changed their minds.
