14 bold predictions for the 2020 college football season

5. FLORIDA WILL WIN THE SEC
Think of all the quarterbacks the SEC lost. Gone is Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jake Fromm.Florida QB Kyle Trask could be the league’s best QB, the Gators’ offensive line should improve, and UF’s defense will still be nasty. The Gators won’t be the favorites, but this upset is possible.

What a stupid article. Where to start ...
  • When looking at a recruiting class, including transfers, it makes no sense to look at the transfers rating coming out of high school. We have information about how they've played since. There are reasons 5*s transfer ... those reasons have to be considered. If the 5* couldn't get PT, why? Injury? He's not as good as many thought? I have no idea if any of these players will be any good, perhaps they will be, but counting them as 5* when they couldn't get PT, and acting like that somehow neutralizes the recruiting advantage that UGA has in this class is plain stupid.
  • If you are going to compare UF's class to UGA's no. 1 class, then you have to look at UGA's transfers. We have one of the pre-season top rated QBs transferring in, and a very good TE from FSU. Both are graduate transfers and have plenty of tape you can look at. But to add UF's transfers and not UGAs is being purposefully obtuse, or he's just not very smart.
  • You also need to see whether they are grad transfers or underclassman. For now, at least, the grad transfers that UGA picked up will play. UF has no idea if Shorter or Lingard will play, and Cox had to sit a year already.
  • FWIW, and to show I am not being overly biased, when comparing roster talent, I have no problem looking at what has happened to previous classes and taking that into consideration. For example, our no. 1 class in 2017 has been hit hard as we lost the following 5*: Justin Fields to tOSU, Zeus White blown ACL, Cade Mays to UTjr, Brenton Cox to UF. We also lost high 4*s Luke Ford to Illinois, and Otis Reese to Ole Miss. That's 6 high level blue chips gone, and one RB rehabbing an ACL (his second). If you re-ranked those classes, others have had hits too, but we wouldn't be no. 1, I don't think.

It appears I do not have to start my annual Gator Preview thread this year … so I will just cut to the case...

If Florida Gators can find enough great receivers they can go undefeated... if not they will lose 4-5 games this year unless Florida can find a running game...

Without the Yankee money, Florida would be an undeveloped wasteland.

Nah. We'd gladly give any money gained right back if y'all would agree to take back the trash you've dumped into South Florida.

Aw c'mon fellers. As a UF alumni, and Florida loves UT, I can help you find common ground.

Closer?

You must mean the "natives".

Just thank the northerners for getting you out of your mud huts and move on.
