Why? That is no punishment what so ever then, what would be the point of the suspension if it can be essentially erased with your suggestion?

For me it's frustrating. They sold their soul so to speak and went back on their word not to sign guys with troubled pasts, allowing La'el Collins to land in Dallas for free rather then spending a 7th on him, and now we don't even get the positives by actually seeing him on the field?

It was clear that his speed and explosion was much much different that Murphy or Smith. He was going to really make a difference, now we're back to a one man pass rush and we saw how that worked out.

What? So you don't believe that Smith or Murphy (among others) will make a difference in the pass rush? Also - you are completely ignoring all of the changes made on the D-line. IMO these are huge. If the D line doesn't place a lot of pressure on the QB on their own then they should certainly free things up for LBs to have a lot more success than last season.

Stop worrying so much about what they didn't do & start focusing on the changes that were actually made & see what actually happens on the field. I still have very high hopes for this defense.

Yep. I guess you could make a case if that part was on video - ala Ray Rice - but it wasn't. The part that was on video - video that is not the greatest quality so it is hard to make out specifics - is another matter. This one confuses me since perhaps Gillette should have had a calmer head & stayed out of things. However - the thing that stands out to me there was at the end where Gillette beats down another guy because that guy was beating up a woman. That IMO kind of makes him a hero in a sense. It makes me wonder if a lot of folks who badmouth him for this incident even saw the tape.

Go view the video & tell what I am missing.

Aside from the fact that its poor quality, no police report and no real proof that it isnt a case of "They all look alike any way".

Nah you pretty much nailed it. :)

I'm saying Smith and Murphy do not have Gillette's speeds, explosiveness, or most importantly track record. I like Murphy, he will be a solid all around linebacker. But he is simply not a great pass rusher and I highly doubt he ever will be. He is simply not quick and explosive enough. Smith is a 2nd round pick who has proven nothing. We all loved Jarvis Jenkins at one time too as a 2nd round DL who looked great in preseason. Gillette on the other hand is a proven game changer and his loss will be huge.

As for the additions Pae has averaged 3 sacks/year, Ricky Jean-Francois has 8.5 sacks in 6 seasons and of course Pork Chop is a space eater who has averaged a little over 2. Sure he is adding much needed size but to assume he will collapse the pocket like Jumpy Geathers is a bit of a reach. He was released by a contending team for a reason.

As I said before their best pass rushing DL appears to be Jason Hatcher. The problem of course is their best pass rushing DL has 32.5 sacks in 9 years. As I said he is old, coming off injury, and has only produced big sack totals once, in (surprise!) a contract year.

Sorry man, you may think these additions will make a bad pass rushing team into a good one but not me. I don't see much improvement at all and I think it wil continue to be a big problem.

Well - no offense, but I am glad that you are not the Redskins GM.

Well - it may not always appear to be the case - but it is always a pleasure exchanging opinions with you.

No offense taken. But serious question, with the facts that I just provided what makes you so sure these new additions will increase the pass rush substantially? Being better than Stephen Bowen does not mean you are an effective pass rusher and none of the FA signings have a track record even close to being good pass rushers.

Murphy showed last year that he simply is not quick enough, his sack totals in college were mostly coverage sacks which is why the nations sack leader was available in round 2. I loved the Smith pick, I really did. But he is a rookie and still an unknown.

Nope, nothing tangible to me that backs up your position. Interested to see how you drew this conclusion.

I won't disagree that Cooley is doing what he can to get his job back. I will say though that I agree with his analysis of Griffin and the Lions game. The line play wasn't good but he did nothing to help "his guys" out. Certainly Sherff got pushed back but he resent, Griffin did nothing to move a little and create room. The other two guys can do it without getting hit 6 times in 8 attempts. There was a reason Griffin had the highest sack percentage per attempt in the NFL last year while Cousins and McCoy did not have a matching statistic.

I posted a few days ago the stat on sacks last year. in basically the same number attempts last year, rg3 suffered 30+ sacks while cousins had less than 10. This with the exact same offensive line. That is a huge difference This one stat alone should tell everyone how a QB can directly affect sacks taken. Our OL did suck, but no way we're they as bad as some make them out to be. Unfortunately, it appears that rg3 may still suffer from the same faults, if the DET game is indicative.

Agree dad, no one is game planning on either side of the ball now. Everyone is running base offense and defense and a lot of starters are not playing for all teams. Still things like being able to move in the pocket, side step etc. are basic QB principles that Griffin didn't display in the last preseason game or most of last year.

If I am D coordinator for an opposing team when the season starts I am going to try to dial up all kinds of pressure to see if he can handle it. At the same time we should expect Gruden will game plan to help whoever is the QB. If I am a D coordinator going against the Skins with a very young and inexperienced right side of the line and a questionable blocking TE I am loading up on that side and sending the cavalry until they proved they can block it.

i am more inclined to believe it was just a bad game and everyone involved is embarrassed by it i am watching jax play the lions right now and jax is moving on this defense . they arent any better then us

i think we are improved . i think we are a 6 win team and that we need more depth better tackling clock and time management and improved qb play

i think we took some positive steps this off season but this will take awhile

I think the team is improved. D will be better. Offense will depend on QB play. Agree that we are a ways from being a good team. I think we still need a QB.

While I've all but written Griffin off, I still would like to see KC get one more serious shot. No doubt he shit the bed last year. But throwing INTs is not uncommon for young QBs. In fact, some of the best QBs in the history of the game threw loads on INTs during their first couple of years. So there is history that says experience can help in overcoming this issue. The question is will KC get the reps to learn and then will be get better?
