I think an early signing period remedies this issue...you really can't blame the Coaches 100% perse...we just saw several athletes flip during signing day...a coach has to over recruit the limit to make sure his class is full....start an early signing period and its fixed for the majority..

IMO, there should be more flexibility for kids to transfer when a coaching staff changes. I am not so concerned about position coaches as a father of a prospect or player as I am the head coach.

I do not....not trying to be hard on the kids, but I think it would set a free agency type atmosphere around the sport and I do not think that would be good for athletes who have committed to programs not coaches.

But, in many cases... the program is the coach.

If Dana gets fired, unless another HC comes in with an Air Raid background, or hires a DC who believes in an odd front... WVU's players may be the square peg trying to fit into the round hole.

I think back to when Rich took over WVU, and Nehlen's pro-style offense and defensive players were clearly not going to perform well in the new offensive and defensive schemes Rich wanted.

So then you start cutting players lose in this Free Agent market type of situation, the next thing that is going to happen are players at other schools losing their schollys so that the coach can bring in other players who maybe have proven themselves on the field or were rated higher caliber. Either way players are going to get screwed to a certain degree.

Plus it would kill schools to make coaching changes...since I am a fan of WVU and our fanbase demands 10 win seasons because of our historical success when they do get DH out of the program this type situation would kill us for years. At least with the sit out a year situation they have to really commit to transfer, if it was just open season programs like WVU would never have sustained success.

You may be on to something. It looks like the P5 is going to pay student athletes. Last year, Northwestern voted on unionization.

Free Agency may be next...

It is a changing landscape....

I don't think "Free Agency" is ever going to happen in the context of what it looks like today...at the end of the day there are still only 85 scholarships per school and less for others in the FBS..and then you have kids that may not qualify academically say a kid going from Cinncy to a Vanderbilt or some kind of example like that...and these kids are going to classes..I think:whistle:...so if they have established their major perhaps another school doesn't have it in their curriclulum or won't accept the credit transfer...that would have a major impact on getting their full 4 YEAR scholarship paid for...so there is plenty of complexity to opening a FA system that a STUDENT/ATHLETE would have to consider...
