Don't be a jabroni.
Game day again, 730pm on FDS on a rainy day. For those going to the game, stay dry and stay safe - lots of morons on the SoCal roads today as usual when it rains. All my kids' sports stuff got canceled so it's a nice easy night in for us, making some lasagna, salad and garlic bread and will mow that down before game time. One kid does need new shoes so maybe we will go during the game but he's saying no rush so guess what child, waiting until the weekend it is. And if you have never secretly wished for one of your kid's practice to be canceled or a tournament to end early so you can leave or not go, you're lying as a parent.

Looks like some changes coming up tonight, Jill will run the standard 12/6. Helenius was called up, Clarke is in, Spence/Thomas/Burroughs scratched. Jill said diplomatically that Clarke sat the last two games basically because of his defense, but we already knew that right? He gets muscled off the puck, can't clear the net and he isn't doing anything much offensively either. We shall see tonight what he does, and he is expected to run PP2 too.
I still don't understand how Lewis continues to get playing time, he literally brings nothing to the table anymore and hasn't in some time. Kuemper to start and line combos looked like this during today's full skate:
15 11 9
22 55 14
37 24 12
10 79 61
44 84
6 8
43 92
I'm surprised Jill is going 12/6 since he loves that 11/7 so much but to me it's clear as day it has exhausted the players. It really should be called an 8/4 which is what he ends up doing in the later stages of games which puts extra minutes on those 12 players leading to chronic exhaustion while three guys play tic tac toe on the bench. It doesn't make sense to me but hey, I ain't the coach. All that does it put more minutes on the older guys like Kopitar and Doughty and not enough minutes for guys like Jeannot and the 3D.
The Blues lost to Dallas 6-3 on Sunday ending their four game win streak but they are one point out of WC2. Because of that the talk around moving Schenn has simmered down and this is a crucial two game stretch for them as well as LA (they will play again in LA on Saturday), I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a minor move to actually bolster their lineup before the TDL on Friday. Hofer expected to start but with three days off between games I wouldn't be surprised to see Binnington either.
Buchnevich has remained hot and wow has that Dylan Holloway Offer Sheet worked out for them - he has 20 goals already and 46 points averaging 16:38 TOI per game, 1:31 on the PP. He was taken 14th overall in that same 2020 draft as Buster who is averaging 18:39 TOI - a full two minutes more a game - and 1:57 on the PP. That's disappointing but hey we are getting used to that from BTL. It's like when it's your birthday but your GF has shown she doesn't remember things you expect not to get a present.
Caught this quote from Kempe on Teh Blog regarding the lethargic play of the last three games (exactly why I say a prospect is a prospect is a prospect until they prove otherwise):
That team is still there, but it’s also not just going to change because I write that it needs to. Or that the players and coaches are saying that it needs to. Starts with emotion. Starts with intensity. Starts with desperation. Starts with pride. Words we’ve heard over the last few days. As Adrian Kempe put it, they’re only words until they show up on the ice.
“We’ve talked about it before, but it’s easy to just sit there and say stuff,” Kempe said. “You’ve got to go out and do it on the ice.”
Well, let's see you guys go do it on the ice. The big buzz in the locker room tonight from everything I've read is emotion and effort, but honestly I'm thinking it's going to be another loss home ice record or not. Prediction: Blues 4-2 with Kings goals by who else - Fiala and Kempe - because no one else can score. At 31-20-8 they are almost a .500 team at 31-28.
This loss puts Bowlby into a tail spin and he make a dumb trade before these two meet again on Saturday. He's going to make a move to save his job, not what's best for the team.
